Yep. And already running his mouth off. He's still insisting the WLRT shouldn't have gone past Westbrook as the NE and SE are more deserving.

Ward 6 did the right thing in 2007. Hopefully, the rest of the city will take notice and keep him away from City Hall.

Knew you'd ask that. Between these two, Burrows was less of a douche than Connelly (think Plan-It). Douchiness (sp?) is hardly a quantifiable measure, but it works for me.

I live in the NE, and we already are getting every extension that makes even the smallest amount of sense already. Why are we more deserving of an extended line?

Unless he means the North Central line.

The west LRT may not have the highest "bang" of any of the lines that could have been built, but it's by far the most bang for the buck out of any of those lines.

The SE line would have cost at least twice as much.

Aside from the infamous $12000 U of C course Burrows tried to charge to his expense account, he also did a pretty poor job of representing his ward. He opposed the application for a Day Care in the Aspen area (the area is absolutely starving for child care options), and he also dropped the ball on a number of meat and potatoe issues in the Ward. For example, just a couple of weeks before the election, there were people out canvassing door to door with a petition to get a four way stop installed at 85th and Wentworth Drive because Burrows had not been able to make anything happen after two years of neighbourhood complaints about the issue. (Ironically, the stop sign went up hastily just days before the election.) The one time I ever tried contacting him about a (different) neighbourhood issue, he totally blew me off.

Connelly I'll agree seems like a bit of a douche, but I get monthly email bulletins from his office about neighbourhood issues and I get the impression that he is actually concerned about Ward issues. And you have to admit, Ward 6 has received a lot of goodies during his term... not that I credit him with that, but you can't fault him either.

A comment from the CBC story on the mayoral candidates:

Impressive field so far . . . an alderman who lost his seat because his constituents felt he was out of touch with them (Burrows) . . . the guy who replaced him who wants to run the city after only one term as aldeman (Connelly). A couple of lumpy white conservative guys (McIver and Lord). A Liberal whose riding association president was disbarred and mixed up in a mortgage fraud. And a chicken advocate. Sounds like that old song Buckshot and Benny the Bear used to sing, "16 Chickens and a Tamborine."

It's funny that I would have said a year ago that Mayor McIver was the worst nightmare I could imagine. Now, he's the lesser of a lot of other evils. Burrows is just unbearably imbecilic.

Saw Kent Hehr yesterday rolling down 11 St, and what an amazing, inspiring guy he is. Took what for many would be a life-destroying tragedy and funnelled all of this former passions into public service. Progressive, smart, an excellent listener, a fighter. He absolutely gets my vote.
