A new planetarium has also been discussed with downtown being the ideal location. Watch for more Austin /HSV comparisons in the coming days.
(there really isn't an equal comparison for the two except maybe in the high tech field) but Austin is a role model in many areas for HSV to copy.

I say tear down that office park next to the Holiday Inn at Big Spring and build a cool tech museum district. It's close to the art museum and everything. Plus, it would also create a need for and office tower in downtown.

I've been told that the city is looking to redevelop the commercialized land from Lowe Avenue SW all the way down to the corner of Madison St where the small Regions bank is located. The area between Lowe and Gallatin St would be expansion for Big Spring park and possibly where the new science museum/planetarium would go. I think we'll also see a nice upscale restaurant or eatery developed along the expanded park area.

There also needs to be another convention hotel in downtown. Possibly a 15-story Marriot where the Coke plant is adjacent to the VBC.

Has the constuction started on the Constellation Development? How much work has been completed? It seems all conversations about major construction centers around the VBC, Art Museum, and Gateway Park.

It's hard to tell with Constellation. The local news announced a while back that Obama was cutting it. But I'm starting to think they meant the space project also named Constellation. Yesterday I went by there and they had some type of construction going on. But it was difficult to see what it was that they were building. They do have the cranes over there so apparently it's still on.

I would love to see a 15 story or better anything downtown. I hope downtown comes to back to life soon. I plan on spending a week there in late July or early August. What are the best spots downtown for dining and nighttime entertainment?

Two different things as you mention, Obama is related to NASA and the space program.
The other Constellation downtown is progressing, that is a Springhill Suites hotel that is under construction.

USA Today Article

I know most of you probably don't read the national newspapers but did anyone see the article about HSV in the USA Today? The article has some good things to say about the Huntsville economy.

Looks like a resturant might actually stick around on Big Spring Park. Pane e Vino is really good. And doing a lot of business!

Really, Really Good! My wife and I went there a few weeks ago - 2 pizzas, shared a salad, bottle of wine, tax and tip for $60?? Good deal in my book! And the pizza was outstanding!!

Earthfare is now open, and while it's expensive I definitely enjoy the fact that it's effectively a 2/3'rds scale Whole Foods and had plenty of samples to give out.

Following Chattanooga's lead, Huntsville looks at hiring downtown czar

Do you think this might finally get things going in the right direction?

If the city of Huntsville doesn't have enough faith to build the now cancelled apartments and garage downtown, how will they ever convince private enterprise to invest? Huntsville needs to blend the past with the future if they want a vibrant downtown. Too much old money calling the shots. It has always been that way.
