Just a heads up to those who post here - Flickr has blocked hotlinking to SSC because most photos posted there didn't have a link back to their Flickr page. I wonder if SSP is next? If so a lot of photothreads will be full of red xs.

Distressing. I always take the time to link back, and therefore am 'in compliance' with flickr's rules. However, if they decide to completely blacklist this site they will have several hundred angry paying customers screaming at them, including me.

Yeah. The photos I post are my own (and I usually post a link to my Flickr set too), but if I post someone else's, then I provide a link to the photo page.

If I post a thread with 100 photos, it would be a pain to link every photo, and IMO completely unnecessary because they are my own anyway.

^I agree completely. I used to link back every single of my images, but it was way too time-consuming. Now you can click on the 'my Flickr' in my signature as a link back to Flickr and my photos there. If it's someone else's photo, it's just common courtesy (regardless if you will get in trouble for it or not) to link back and credit the person that did the work in taking the photograph.

I don't think SSP is next because most people do seem to link back (although many improperly) and we are way less noticed than SSC.

Maybe I'll have to start linking back...which is just great.

Flickr does not treat paying customers right, cutting off access like that? And why do they require link back, let alone a link to every single photo page for each photo? People actually pay for this? Flickr is the only paid photo hosting site that has such a requirement. PBase doesn't have it, Zenfolio doesn't have it, Smugmug doesn't have it...

If you need to linkback, especially a batch of photos, try Quickr Pickr. I love this program and use it to upload shots whenever I post threads.

It's called "I like to get hits on my photostream". I get about a half dozen hits a day from SSP members. When I post photo threads it jumps to around 20 hits a day for a few days. And it only costs 25 dollars to host an unlimited amount of photos which can be viewed and downloaded an unlimited amount of times. It isn't like it's going to kill you to spend a few extra seconds adding the URL to an image.

Wal-mart makes billions on profit margins that amount to a cent or so. The amount of time you'd have to spend linking back adds up, especially for long photothreads...which I really ought to post more often, seeing as how I've got a Picasa account and not a Flickr.

I have a copy/paste technique that basically allows me to produce the code for a 35 image photo thread in about 5 minutes. The hard part is choosing and ordering the photos and adding commentary.

So? Why should Flickr require that paying members to do this? It is ridiculous. If I can wanted to, I could do the exact same with Pbase, Smugmug, Zenfolio, etc. The difference is that these sites don't require that hotlink back. They give you the freedom to use the photos they host for you in any manner you wish. After all, you paid for the service. You should be able to use that service without any restrictions.

Flickr is the only pay site that has restriction on direct linking. It is also the only site that doesn't allow people to use the site for business or commercial purposes.

Just finished painting the exterior of a house and
got 600euros so I finally ordered the Tokina11-16mm
lense with a cleaning kit and circ.polar.filter
for that price.....hurry up U.K post!!

Awesome, my wide-angle Sigma 10-20mm is my current favourite lens. But I just got the kit lens from my new 50D (17-85mm IS), so it may finally have some competition... strange sounding I know, that a kit lens can compete with a specialized lens, but given the old kit lens I had with the XT.

Damn that blows. I sometimes link my own photos back, but generally I don't. I stopped linking in my photothreads because the borders on linked images would go purple and it looked like crap in my photothreads. Although, I'm not noticing that problem with this test here today, so maybe I can go fix my photothreads. Although that would probably take weeks. If they block it I will be annoyed.

I picked up a Nikon 105mm f/2.5 Ai this afternoon. I'm extremely happy with it even though it's completely manual on a D90 (manual focus and no metering). The focus ring turns extremely smoothly and travels really far so it's quite easy to focus. This lens has a great reputation for its sharpness and its bokeh. The in-focus regions really stand out and the out-of-focus areas are soft and smooth. Here are a few shots I took on the way home today:

You daughter is beautiful Flar, and I can't help but notice the OC Transpo buses in your photos. For some reason i thought you are from Hamilton.

Why did you choose 105mm? Is it suppsoed to be a macro lens? Or portrait? Why is it manual focus only?a The only flaw I can see with your lens is the extreme chromatic aberration in the cyclist shot, otherwise it looks great.
