Remember though that the post office component of that project was scrapped. The post office instead opted for a site on East 7th? Street. We've never seen a rendering for it, but they did say they were looking at a property there instead.

Has anyone seen that the city is going to rename West 2nd street from trinity to san antonio. (convention center to green water plant) to Willie Nelson Boulevard and the police will be instructed not to arrest anyone smoking marijuana on that stretch of road.
Wha?? I knew about the first part, but not the 2nd part. It does make me wonder though, I mean if you've got 2,500 people pouring out of the ACL studio under a green cloud, what are the police to do? They'd need a convoy of buses to carry them all to jail.

true, although the city hasn't updated the emerging projects since november of 2009...so who knows. I'm kind of hoping they turn the post office site into some kind of office/post office hybrid. Both sites have a lot of potential.
There is a smaller (35 story) building proposed on that site, but the post office is no longer part of it.
My guess is the post office would need to move before anything could go in there.
Novarre had success in Austin with 360. I'm hoping they are coming back for more

though i like 360 and its overall design, i sure do hope that any other building novarre builds here looks different than 360 & their other buildings. to me, all their projects look mostly the same. personally, i want diversity in architecture.

Developers are laying the groundwork to proceed with a project proposed for the block just west of the downtown post office, with revised plans calling for a 28-story condominium tower and a 16-story office tower, plus a restaurant, shops and a bank.
The 1.2-acre site is bounded by Fifth, Sixth, San Antonio and Nueces streets and is owned by the International Bank of Commerce-Laredo, according to an engineer's letter submitted to the city as part of a request for approval for a site plan.

Awesome! That all sounds really great; my only issue is the location of the new post office. 9th & Red River is kind of an odd location for a new post office.. I guess it's good to spread things out?

i wish that were true.oh how i dream about the day when i can do that.

"In just months the Austin City Limits Studio will move from the UT Campus to a new and upgraded facility.
"It's going to be incredible, of course we are a little nostalgic about moving out of our old home for the last 35 years but we are really excited about the next chapter in Austin City Limits future and this is it right behind us," says ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona.
To make the move Downtown a bit easier and more welcoming city council members are proposing Second Street also be named Willie Nelson Boulevard. The sign would be placed above the current one. Council Member Mike Martinez is co-sponsoring the item scheduled to be up for vote later this month.

Yeah, that wasn't a bad guess on the renders. Keep in mind the Ashton was rendered also. The W and Austonian had actual floor plans for the various floors posted, so I was able to make very accurate models. The Four Seasons, on the other hand, is quite a bit off on the proportions. Much more guess work there.
New vision for Capitol complex: More room for state workers, private development on state land

A state commission is re-imagining the future of state government's physical presence in the heart of Austin a concept that would triple the amount of space at the Capitol complex, including joint development with private interests where there are parking lots or garages now.
The proposal, being crafted by the Texas Facilities Commission staff under the direction of new Executive Director Terry Keel, goes well beyond moving state employees from 2 million square feet of leased space across Austin to new state-owned buildings near the Capitol.
The concept, carried out over several decades, would remake downtown, potentially adding 7 million square feet of space, or the equivalent of 13 Frost Bank towers.
Of that, 1 million square feet would be in three new state office buildings. The proposal envisions the rest as joint development of underused state land with private interests.
The planners anticipate that the undertaking would comply with City of Austin development rules and respect the so-called Capitol view corridors. The plan is "parking neutral" — replacing lost spaces with underground parking — but anticipates that the Capitol complex eventually would be served by light rail and urban rail.

I propose the city build a giant billboard that looks like your render and stick it in front of the 4 seasons.
