Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts recovering from car crash injuries

Quote:
Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts was resting at home Sunday but still very sore from a two-car crash on Friday night.

“It’s quite painful, but she will make a full recovery,” said Watts’ assistant Tara Foslien.

Watts’ car and a second vehicle collided at 128 St. and 24 Ave. in the Crescent Heights neighbourhood of South Surrey about 11 p.m.

Watts and her husband Brian, who was also in the car, were treated in hospital for cracked ribs and bruises. Both cars were totalled.

“The doctors told her to take time off and let her ribs heal,” said Foslien.

Surrey Coun. Judy Villeneuve has been appointed Acting Mayor in Watts’ absence.

Initial reports had Watts’ car travelling east along 24th when a black car crashed into her sport utility vehicle. It was not immediately clear whether Watts or her husband was driving.

Surrey RCMP watch commander Dave Attfield said more information will be made available on Monday. No alcohol was involved.

He said the incident is being investigated by the force’s traffic section to determine which driver was at fault.
Poor Watts Hope she has a speedy recovery. Surrey city centre depends on her !!!

Haha. I have seen that place. I looked it up, and it is a club for alcoholics anonymous folks to hang out without alcohol.

It's an awfully sad reflection on Surrey if the city's development is entirely dependent on her leadership. Unfortunately it's probably true, and one of the reasons I'm not convinced by the city centre's supposed rebirth.

Hope she gets well soon. Maybe I'm wrong, and she really can get it to the point where it'll survive without her vision and drive.

Precisely true. The City is far too reliant on her leadership - the comments on this forum are a simple indication. The real test for the future direction of Surrey will be the actions of the next Mayor.

Here's an update from the Surrey City Centre Library blog today:
(I wonder if maybe the Library should have it's own thread?)

^ Those look very Euro, like something you would see in Rotterdam or Manchester.

Has a design been selected yet, or are we still just picking up random renderings of concepts?

These were installed near the Chuck Bailey Rec Centre. I dunno if they are the same as at the other locations... Pics by me.

The old ones for reference:

^ Nice improvement. `Good to see modern full cut-off lights replace those 1980s faux victorian gaslight globes.
