...no worries here, the tower is on schedule. By the end of 2010, it will reach the 60th floor, yes. The roof will be reached by late 2011.

That's for sure. It's actually getting hard to photograph the whole thing now, unless from a distance.

A few more pics from Friday...not sure what's going on here, but it's where the west side plaza will be...

Working inside the base...

The presence is being felt all the way over on Church Street...

Are those holes planters for the trees?

My guess is those holes are related to foundations for the stepped seating area next to the base of the building.

On another note, they're adding columns for the next floors.

Maybe they're there as "planters" for the trees?

If you look at the pic that Bucktown718 posted above, just above the first car on the left, peeking over the fence is this .

Photo by Sal Schiano over at WNY.

The "weight wagon" for the 18000's Max-ER kit, all 95,000 pound of it (860,000 when all the weights are added).

Nice shots NYGuy.

JSsocal, yes the holes are for trees. The design is a bit different from the rendering, there will be stainless grating around the trees.

The manual states an overall hight of 11' 8" so I'm guessing the tires are about 10' 6".

This is a scale model, but it is a good indicator of the size.

The real thing, Photo by NYatKnight at WNY.

That's the MAX-ER for the crane. Basically it's a heavy duty trailer with more counterweights on top of it, attached to the back of the crane. It increases lifting capacity. It's also mobile(hence the wheels) so that the crane doesn't have to be stationary.

The Port Authority could have done a reality show to see who will take charge of the Freedom Tower, with Donald Trump as host...

New stake in the sky

By STEVE CUOZZO
April 27, 2010

Quote:
The field of developers chasing a stake in the Port Authority's 1 World Trade Center will be whittled down to a two- or three-horse race this week.

Of the four major developers vying for a piece of the world's most closely watched office tower project, sources said the Durst Organization, Related Cos. and Boston Properties are still in the game.

But "Hines is toast," one insider predicted
of the Texas-based developer that also bid on the project.

The PA board is pressing the participants to deliver more details of their proposals ahead of a board meeting Thursday, sources said. Agency suits will take up Executive Director Chris Ward's recommendations in an executive session, but not necessarily at the public board meeting.

The PA hopes to complete a term-sheet with the winning bidder by June or July and finalize a deal by year's end.

It wasn't immediately clear why Hines is facing the chopping block. But sources had no doubt what doomed two other companies that put their hats in the ring, Brookfield and Vornado, which were dropped last month.

"Brookfield has hundreds of thousands of square feet coming on the market in the World Financial Center over the next few years," one source noted. "It's not the crisis it's been made out to be, but the PA believed that Brookfield's loyalties would be divided if they were also involved in moving space at 1 WTC."

As for Vornado, "The PA never got over 2001," a different insider said. The PA designated Vornado to buy the Twin Towers leasehold that spring, but Vornado chief Steve Roth changed his mind, leaving the PA to negotiate with developer Larry Silverstein.

A source said, "The PA blames Vornado for Larry," whom the agency regards as difficult.

Of course, while the PA thought Roth left the agency in the lurch, he blamed the PA, and Silverstein has always blamed the PA for the delays at Ground Zero.

But whoever's right, "The PA has the institutional memory of a cranky elephant," our mole put it.

The source noted that Brookfield and Vornado were in the 1 WTC talks in the first place "to bulk up the field. The PA wanted it to look like a feeding frenzy."

The partnership offering essentially calls for a $100 million to $150 million contribution in the $3 billion project. The private partner would play no role in construction, but take the lead in leasing, marketing and asset management.

Some of the contribution would be in cash up front, with the rest as commitments to future leasing costs, including brokers' commissions.

The deal wouldn't save the PA that much money. But it would allow the 2.6 million square-foot 1 WTC to cease being the "Port Authority's" and become Durst's or Related's or Boston's -- lending greater credibility in the private market.

The tower's structural steel, now up to about the 24th floor, makes an impressive sight over Ground Zero.

Cushman & Wakefield powerhouse Tara Stacom, the chief leasing agent, said the superstructure could rise as high as Silverstein's 7 WTC, also designed by architect David Childs, by year's end.
