North Temple bridge demolition begins

Im really happy about the La Porte Group project and the new additions. What I'm not happy about is the addition to the on Elks Club Building on South Temple. I like the side of that building and wouldn't want it covered up. I wish the new portion of the building were it's own building and could entirely fill that parking lot.

From what my grandpa told me, that parking lot is a very tricky piece of real estate because it is the parking and property of the Alta Club. Since the Alta Club is owned by the members of the club, and some memberships have been passed down to uninterested descendants, etc, the issue of who owns what is a tricky matter for them to deal with. Maybe things have changed, but maybe they haven't. My grandpa is one of those members who never goes to the club so he might just be out of the loop when it comes to that stuff. I hope he is just out of the loop because I would hate to see that parking lot remain a parking lot for such a stupid reason.

The Elks Club building is a unique and very beautifully adorned structure. This particular project scares me. I'm having a hard time trusting that it will be handled properly. Nothing of course, against those taking on this project. It's just that it would be typically handled in a short sighted way. Let's keep our fingers crossed, because the rendering doesn't give us a lot of hope.

It throws off the balance of the building. Perhaps it would work if the addition were only three stories.

it wasn't planned or anything. It was just an artistic rendering that Downtown Rising had on their website to show how certain districts of downtown might look one day. I just wished that something of that height or taller would occupy that parkling lot space.

I noticed the two inside statues on the facade have been brought down. I wonder if that was a mistake, or if they are changing the configuration of the facade.

Did you all see the announcement on the news yesterday? They're finally going to redevelop that retail, strip mall mess up at the top of Millcreek, where the old Smith's used to be. I hope they'll make a much better use of space than what is currently there.

I was sorry to hear about Howa and Marmalade, but I don't think anybody was surprised. Seems like Howa's eyes are always much bigger than his stomach.

I'm not sure of the exact details of the new retail complex up in Olympus Hills. The new's report wasn't too extensive. There were brief visuals of renderings, that indicated a much needed updo in the designs of the fronts. The few interview/comments offered by adj. resident's response was positive. It pretty much appeared in design and exterior treatment to be similar to the Jordan Landing kind of setup on a smaller scale, or what the design dejour is these days for surburban retail, i.e, Walmart 1300 E. in Sandy, or Valley Fair Mall type arrangement and style. I was hoping that there would be some followup by the Deseret News and Tribune by now, but haven't seen anything yet.

I was surprised by the new museum of natural history- I thought it looked small in all the previous shots but when I was up there yesterday- it is huge! I really like the copper roof as well. Does anyone know if this is real copper that will green as it weathers or is it like that used on Utah One and will stay this color?

Cool pics Neuroguy. The copper will maintain it's current color and variation of shades. I would be curious to know the treament process used for that, say vs. the dome on the Capitol
