There comes a point when the rigid, unvarying monotony of the introductory sequence begins to negate its drama, since we all know how this movie begins.

With regards to the anthem, using the same singer every night squanders an opportunity for creativity, art and entertainment. The Canadian and American anthems are potentially beautiful pieces of music. It would be exciting and refreshingly entertaining to hear a different, authentic musician render a unique and potentially beautiful interpretation of these songs each night. This is a golden opportunity to showcase and enjoy diverse musical acts, from big stars to talented unknowns, from rock or pop to folk or bluegrass. The possibilities are exciting.
While it would be nice to hear some other talent at times.

I don't want to hear people that I've heard singing the national anthems at some of the US arenas. There have been some that absolutely brutalized the Canadian national anthem. Hell a monkey could of sung better.

So I say get new talent. But please make sure they can sing the songs before putting them in front of a life audience

Do you guys actually only watch games in the playoffs??

Donnelly doesn't sing all the games throughout the year and the U2 song isn't played before every game.

I guess it may seem this way to the fans who only watch the big games through the year and the playoffs but there is a fair amount of variety if you watch most of the games.

Not mention how asinine this topic even is... Last time I checked people go to hockey games to watch hockey not to take in a concert.

Kings take it 3-2 in OT. That was the Canucks' game to lose. The second period was just plain sloppy.

learn something about sports tradition and superstition.

gee the canadiens should change that boring old logo, i'm sure tired of people waving towels at canucks playoff games, the coyotes stadium looks so bland with everyone wearing white.

boo hoo hoo.

i'll take you seriously when you start tuning in to the canucks other than the playoffs.

Okay, we get it: you're the president of the Donnelly fan club and you cannot imagine anyone but him singing the anthem in perpetuity. Message received loud and clear.

But the notion we must remain married to a single anthem singer forever, playoff-year after playoff-year, decade after decade, without any variation or variety, lest we violate some sacred sports tradition, is preposterous. The singing of the anthem is precisely where change is common (and usually welcome) in sports.

Not like he actually sings that much, he usually lets the crowd do half of it

What winning tradition are you trying to keep going with the superstition of having the same anthem singer, anyways ?

I am sorry it bothers you so much when someone brings the obvious to your attention: using the same person to sing the anthem (a song which has the potential for a variety of beautiful interpretations) year after year, without any variation, can get a little stale and that some new musical talent from time to time might be nice.

Donnelly has had a good run and entertained us all for many, many years. As charming and beloved as Donnelly's shtick has been, he has had his time. There really is no need to get so bothered by the prospect of change. It is healthy and offers new, exciting possibilities. Maybe we will even win the Stanley Cup for a change.

^with luongo and the olympics, then henrik and the art ross... it almost feels like if its not this year then it never will happen.

scary though, because i don't think the canucks have the highest chance of winning.

If they win the Cup, I'll buy you all a round.

The team that played in the second period last night isn't making it to the second round, let alone the finals. Maybe they can pull it together and advance in 6 or 7, but they're a horribly inconsistent team.

Oh ffs, is it possible for the Canucks to show up for three full periods? Seriously, I've *never* seen them play three solid periods in recent memory...

Canucks aren't playing TERRIBLE. But, their PK must be running at 0% so far this series...

Brutal second period plus the "distinct kicking motion" call cost us the game. They need to bounce back and play 60 minutes, not 40 minutes with a 20 minute break in between.
