I'm going to check out the James presentation centre today... an interesting building with some neat features.

Nice building... innovative plans.

Wasn't completely sold on some of the finishing and lack of options (that I would like).

Interesting on the lack of publicity on this. I knew it was coming forward and I believe I mentioned it sometime back, but still shocked to see the city hosting an open house without and fanfare having been made. I didn't even get my customary email in regards to this and found out about it by accident. Pretty sure the city has it's mind made up on this issue regardless and we will see the additional height.

Quote:
Open House: Southeast False Creek Height Review

What do you think of having buildings that are two storeys taller than currently allowed in Southeast False Creek? Come to an open house to learn more about a proposal that would increase the area’s maximum heights and densities and introduce the draft design guidelines for taller buildings on Tuesday, April 6 from 6 to 8:30 pm at City Hall (453 West 12th Avenue, Strathcona Room, sub-ground level*).

City staff will be on hand to answer questions and hear your feedback. A report with recommendations will be presented to City Council later this spring.

^ I think the reason for increasing max height has been mentioned here before, but I don't recall - are developers/CoV interested in increasing density in SEFC? That would make sense to me, given the stake the city has in SEFC now. Or do developers just want to do massing differently (i.e. taller towers)?

Edit: Ok, wasn't paying enough attention - I see the blurb mentions increasing density as well.

Thanks for the heads up.

Where would the increased density go? SEFC has just been built out with the Olympic Village. The area west of it, up to the Cambie bridgehead is supposed to be parks/playing fields, and the area south of it with the factories, does that still count as SEFC?

Only first phase complete:

Isn't the Burger King on Main right where the 3C section is?

Oh ok. Thanks deasine. So really we're looking at the dark blue areas on the map for increased height and density.

I'm presuming so, but notice that areas 1A, 3A, and 3B have not been built out yet. What's really only been built is 2A and a bit of the open field area in 1A.

Yeah, the undeveloped land owned by the city is larger than what's been developed for the Olympic Village. A couple more floors of height will really get more bang for the buck for the city (ie: us).

Yeah, my presumption from the initial public discussions way back was that 1A, 3A and 3B were to be mostly open land and some (low) buildings - schools, community centres, daycares, etc. Looks like there will be more buildings there than I imagined. Could still be good though

And further north is the McD's.

Both sites slated for redevelopment.

Thank god they want to re-develop that area with McD's and Burger King. My place will be facing east, probably with the big arches in plain sight!

I'm looking forward to the little park spaces there...hopefully they build some tennis courts there

McD's just spent a ton of money on renos to that location. Do they know something we don't?

um ......

closest McD's to the Athletes Village?
Athletes celebrating their victory, or just having a post-event slack-off with a burger & fries. Maybe I saw too many of the commercials in Feb.

McD's near Main St Station en route to/from GM Place / Hockey House / Concord Place

They did a complete knock-down rebuild of that location in time for Expo 86 too. Even though they had McD's all over the Expo site too - Meet you at the McBarge for supper!
