That's too bad. i knew that it was renamed due to funding/market problems that are obviously going on around the country. Instead of scaling back, i wish they would just hold off on the original plans until the economy is able to sustain such a project.

Should not be to long until we have a clean view of all the buildings without cranes. The only one that would show up is the Federal Court House but its low and might not show up in most pics. It will be nice to see the city as a whole without cranes for a while until something big comes along again to perk our excitment.
...Yea. The end of the W and the end of the Federal Courthouse signifies the end of the Residential Boom of 2006-2010. 4 great years of construction. Only a few projects remain incompleted and are still on the board. Soon, we need Projects and Construction III to finalize our boom.

New population estimates for Austin.

City- 786,484
Urbanized Area- 1,037,229

I know the city estimate is new, but I was wondering about the urbanized population. Nonetheless, moving on up.

Some skyline photos from last Friday/Sat Mar 19/20 all from the west

01. From a lot for sale that has a little deck on Mount Shepherd

02. Zoomed in

03. Panoramic from Courtyard Dr.

04. From somewhere in West Austin - I think it was The High Road or some street off The High Road. Damn telephone pole.

05. Zoomed in

06. Mount Bonnell Panoramic

07. Mount Bonnell

08. Red Bud Bud Trail at Forest View Drive

09. Zoomed in a little

10. From a dead end street near Wachovia Bank (2702 Bee Caves Rd.)

If you park at the end of this dead end street, there's a deck on the right. I don't know if it was originally part of a house or if someone just built a little deck, but it has a nice view

11. Midtown from the deck

12. Monarch & Spring from the deck

13. Skyline from the deck

14. Partial skyline from Zilker Clubhouse trail

15. From Zilker Park

16. From the Mopac Pedestrian Bridge

The above site shows the city population estimate of 786,484 that LiveattheOasis quoted but not the Urbanized Area Population Estimate.

The estimate was for January 1, 2009.

Great pics Mike, looks like spring is in full bloom down there. LOVE the shot from Bee Caves Rd. We were just starting to bloom before we had 6" of snow here in Tulsa last weekend in between days with temps. in the 70's..

Within the next few years, maybe as soon as 2012, Austin could very well jump Jacksonville for the 12th spot.

Um... Austin is currently 15th, Jacksonville 13th. For Austin to reach 12th we would have to leapfrog Indianapolis and San Francisco as well... I think that surpassing Indianapolis won't be too difficult, but catching up to San Francisco within two years isn't likely (neither for that matter is passing Jacksonville itself).

I'm viewing these estimates with suspicion at the moment. Their number for Pflugerville is too low. The census estimate for 2008 was higher than this estimate for 2009.

It's no surprise that numbers from local governments would be higher than those of the Census. The reason being is that they're going to want to report higher numbers to collect more government funding. As for which one is correct, as long as everyone takes the Census, the Census numbers will be correct. The local government numbers aren't an actual census, but rather estimates. The Census Bureau is always the best source, assuming everyone actually participates.

Thanks. Those last two photos from Zilker & the Mopac pedestrian bridge were from Saturday evening. It was 40 degrees with 25 mph winds that blew all kinds of pollen up my nose. (cough, cough) I feel like I've been in my death bed all week.

The incredible cluster of buildings from this view, didn't exist 3 years ago....and the 3rd tallest building (The W) can't been seen from this view.

I've always loved this view on Red Bud. I noticed you shot it from the westbound shoulder which is definitely the best visual.

Great shots Lone Star!!

12th or 13th, I had the 2007 numbers on me at the time. The difference between SFO and JAX in the 2008 #s is just slightly over 1,000.

Using current trends in raw numbers growth, Austin could easily surpass SFO by 2015 estimates. Jax's growth has slowed significantly since the real estate crash, but may be turning the corner now, so we'll see. That said, Austin will easily jump Indy in this current census count.

Hey hey! You changed your numbers. Originally you said 2012, now you're saying 2015. By 2015 I DO think it is possible that we will surpass San Francisco, but not by 2012. Jacksonville maybe, maybe not by 2015.

I did see the new SSP skyline. At least it is real neat to have Frosty in there. Who knew that a building like that could pop up here? (Against a bunch of contenders like Comcast, T.I.H.T, Aqua, and Bank of America?)

Now for the population thing, I don't think Austin can pass Jacksonville within 2012. Indianapolis is a little tad bit hard to, considering they are 12,000 away from us. Jacksonville is 21,000. BUT, you need to take in consideration that Austin is one of the Top 10 fastest growing cities in the nation. (Where are they now, is it still 6th?) You also have to consider the fact that Austin was #1 in cities that are recovering from the recession.

If Austin can beat Jacksonville, I'd put my money for Austin to beat San Fransisco--maybe a bet for Detroit 2020...
