If that happens, I think the Tri-Cities, or at least Port Moody, would probably pull themselves out of Metro Vancouver.

I believe Coquitlam Centre Mall is the 2nd largest shopping complex in the Lower Mainland.

The Port Moody and Coquitlam area have many beautiful lakes and Inlet Parks that are among the best in the Lower mainland in the summer. Would be nice to see some shuttle bus service from one of the new stations to some of these parks.

Douglas College

Not to mention it opens up an entire region of the Lower Mainland for general purpose travel / business travel.

Also, it is more about connecting the tri-cities to the destinations elsewhere in the metro Region, but for those here who are more adventurous, they can discover new favorite spots / destinations by taking the new line when it opens

Oh well Evergreen isn't a bad consolation prize.
Don't wish for that, for this may be our last chance to have a true mass transit line built in our region if the never ending misinformed LRT parade continues with Broadway...

That's why I said there will be new trips, not lots of new trips.

On another note. I think having the Evergreen line built first makes it even more likely the line to UBC will be a Millennium Line extension too. That way people will be able to travel from Douglas to UBC without transfer. That would be cool.

^good point. It sorta forces the ubc line to be in the form of skytrain, or at least provides an incentive. That'll be my consolidation prize for now lol

"en bref," it has to be Skytrain technology to UBC when the time comes. We've seen the prangs, smash-ups and snarl-ups in Houston and other cities with LRT only.

What they save in outlaying infrastructure costs, they'll ultimately lose in constant upgrading necessity, repairs, and "having to revamp" the whole thing again if they go streetcar or LRT.

I wish some of these Vancouver councillors were more cosmopolitan and travelled more to citites in Europe and Asia, to see how real transit systems work, especially on one with a distant, long range destination like UBC.

Guildford before Metrotown was the largest mall in BC - it remains second - coquitlam is probably 3rd largest

Just looked up the numbers and the two malls are very close in size.

Both malls have 200 stores, but Guildford is 985 306 sq feet, while Coquitlam is 913 665 square feet.

Despite this, Coquitlam Centre has always felt more grand and welcoming to me than Guildford.

It is hard to explain, despite the fact they are both big malls in the burbs Coquitlam Centre feels a lot more polished than Guildford, and more central than Guildford to me.

Just my personal feeling.

Well it matters because it becomes an important aspect to have directly linked to the line.

Many people going to Coquitlam are going to the mall

not in the sense i was thinking

there is nothing in the mall though that would make someone want to go there from vancouver - its not metrotown unless u worked there for whatever reason and commuted from vancouver

there is not going to be a stop at the mall anyway unless that has changed

Although, many people go to Douglas College. They just doubled the size of the Coquitlam David Lam Campus. Lots of students that have courses in both New West and David Lam will have an easier commute. I used to take courses at both campuses like 8 years ago, and really sucked. There is no doubt that once there is a Skytrain station at David Lam then more people will consider taking courses there. Also, there is a T&T at Coquitlam Centre, and it's closer to my house then the other locations, so I would take Skytrain to get there instead of going to Metrotown.

(to SpongeG) There will definitely be people coming in from Port Moody and the Burquitlam area to go shopping at Coquitlam Centre. People also do travel to different malls for specific shops / deals or to meet friends.

For example, people who live in Richmond do go to Metrotown sometimes, even though Richmond has its own malls. People in Maple Ridge sometimes go to Metrotown or Pacific Centre, even though Coquitlam Centre is closer.

Were there not several malls connected with the C-line, despite the fact Metrotown is bigger????

I personally feel your argument is null. there were those who thought creating Metrotown and joining it with skytrain was a bad idea, because why would anyone go there when there is downtown????

People from all over go to Metrotown because it's the shiznits. And other than Scotiabank theater and Cinemark, Metropolis is the only good theater anywhere close Skytrain.

Coquitlam center feels a bit dated. But I do like going there because its usually more quiet than anywhere else and has some good stores (and the Futureshop always had what I want in stock).

Guildford is just plain ghetto and I avoid going there like the plague.

The only thing that will draw people to shop at Coquitlam Center from further East than Burquitlam is H&M.

what was the point of all this - oh right no point

why choose to make it into something out of nothing goes beyond me

i was just saying at one time guildford was the biggest mall in BC until metrotown merged and its still considered the second largest in BC

and yes Coquitlam centre is a big 🞵🞵🞵 mall but guildford is still bigger

thats all

carry on

umm, no one is arguing, and no one cares that Guildford is slightly bigger.

The conversation originated that someone said there are no destinations along the Evergreen Line, and I pointed out several areas that will serve as at least regional destinations. I said that Coquitlam was the second largest mall, you suggested Guildford was larger, I looked it up and then agreed with you, and from there people have been discussing who from what regions would ride the line to go shopping at Coquitlam Centre for what purposes.

There, those are the minutes from the last page and a half for you.

And this is an issue worth talking about since this is the largest commercial district the new line will be interacting with

Sure... for about $1000 per shovel right?
