^if i recall they are more or less just replacing what was there but not upgrading the exterior envelope or raising the R value of the wall spandrel.

The project is aiming for LEED certification, what level exactly is unclear. Probably silver, but still much better than the original building.

It's NOT going to cover the whole building. Each of the eight platforms will be about three floors high and raised to the top of the building by cables from derricks on the roof. They will then be lowered as they progress through the replacement of all the panels.

As described by Joseph on UT who is working on the project.

In light of what I just wrote and displayed on the video... Yes that was a stupid question. LOL

The ARE going to be starting at the top. They are only constructing the three-floor platforms on the ground, then hoisting them into place at the top and spiraling their way down.

i wasn't referring to the scaffolding at the base. and i watched the video when it was originally posted.

I was talking about the marble panels already removed near, but not at, the top of the building (at the BMO sign level). Why did they begin there as opposed to the top?

OH... My apologies.

I was wondering this myself. Perhaps because that area was more finicky and they thought they would get a head start. So when the scaffold is in place at the top, they can just do the procedure in one smooth continuous motion.

I should ask Joseph over at UT. He'll have the real answer.

Here's the latest construction update from Brookfield:

March 27 through April 3, 2010

The following is work scheduled to take place at First Canadian Place. Please note, crews will
not be working Friday April 2, 2010.

Tower Exterior – East Face
o Weather permitting, cross-bracing and permanent decks will be installed
on the four (4) pole scaffold on floors 11-20 by April 3, 2010.

Tower Exterior – West Face
o Weather permitting, the four (4) pole scaffolding will reach the floors 65
through to the roof-top by April 3, 2010.
o Work on the Suspended Elevated Platforms (SEP) will be on-going on
floors 3 through 7. Work is completed during the day and throughout
the evening.

Tower Exterior – North Face
o Work on the Suspended Elevated Platforms (SEP) will be on-going on
floors 3 through 9. Work in this area is expected to be complete April
16, 2010. Work is completed during the day and throughout the
evening.

Tower Exterior – South Face
o Work on the Suspended Elevated Platforms (SEP) will be on-going on
floors 3 through 7. Work is completed during the day and throughout
the evening.

Tower Exterior – King Street West, Street Level
o No work is anticipated in this area.

Tower Exterior – 73rd floor, Penthouse Rooftop
o Weather permitting, roof scaffolding and motor placement will occur
through April 3, 2010. Intermittent noise may be assoicated with this
work.

o Interior “Market Place” – Concourse Level
o Until April 3, 2010, the east-west main corridor in the Market Place will
be closed to pedestrian traffic. Access to the remaining food outlets and
the Exchange Tower is by means of the north-south corridor by
Timothy’s.
o NOW OPEN in the Market Place are: Timothy’s, Naturally Yours
(temporary location), HoShim Take-out and The Great Canadian Bagel
(NEW location).
o Closed for renovations are: Greenleaf’s, Furama, Soup It Up (new
location), Decadent Desserts (new location) and Rocky Mountain
Chocolate Factory. Most of these foods outlets will be open for business
by the end of May 2010.
o Longo’s is scheduled to open on the south side of the Market Place, in
Summer 2010.

NOTICE OF LANE REDUCTION(S)
o There will be a crane lift on Adelaide St.W., from 7:00 am until 1:00
p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010. This will necessitate a lane closure in
the immediate work area only. Access to the building via the doors by
PLUS ONE (Adelaide St.W., east-most building entrance) may be
temporarily impeded during the lift operation.
o Inspection crews will be working on a boom lift on each Adelaide St.W.,
Bay St. and King St W., from 7:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. on each Monday,
March 29 through Thursday April 1 and Saturday April 3, 2010. Lanes
will be restricted in the immediate area.
