I noticed it via MLS, checking it out after reading the article about ASPAC development sales during the Olympics.
Someday I'll stop reaching back to the comparisons

, but DC experienced a similar phenomenon about a decade ago as the city finances improved and the downtown started becoming highly desirable again. Folks moving from NYC would go ga-ga at the low prices as compared to Manhattan . . . they'd be like "Wow! For the price of my antiquated 2-bdrm flat in the Upper East side, I can buy a fully renovated heritage row home in historic Dupont or Kalorama . . . where do I sign?"
And the people who bought those homes did quite well. The revitalized downtown neighborhoods continued to see values climb most of the decade, and have kept most of the increased value even as US housing has faltered severely the past few years.
I'm not sure it's a lasting phenomenon here in Vancouver - or if it should be (as others have mentioned). But I do think it would be good to have the inventory in that part of the market reduced a bit. Will be interesting to see what the data shows over the next couple of months.
