Yep! You can bring in any DSLR you want. No limitations. Only they ask no flash photography. The Olympics are not as strict as NHL at all.

News1130 reporting South Granville merchants also seeing large drops in business. So much for it being Canada's Games, BC Games or even Vancouver's Games. Its pretty much just benefitting the downtown core, Yaletown and Whistler Village.

I already have enough blisters from walking around the fricken seawall yesterday

Going to leave for Canada vs. Norway soon
What does it cost for a beer there ???? I've got tickets to the womens bronze medal game next week and I've been dying to know how much I will have to fork over !

You could say the same thing about the summer fireworks... or any parade... or anything else that encourages people to concentrate in one area. I'm sure business is worse in South Granville every time 40,000 people go to a Lions game, too. It's a temporary situation; those places will survive.

I'll get back to you on that tonight The beer is smaller than what you'd get at a Canucks game.

With all the B*tching they do about the crowds during the summer fireworks, the residents are probably quite happy to be away from the Olympic Party action.
On the other hand, the merchants are likely wondering where the crowds are.
Too bad there wasn't a good place to put a LIVEcity - English Bay.

I agree. It would be great if one of the lines of the Canada Line reached Waterfront via a detour--from Yaletown--through the West End, with stations at Davie & Burrard, English Bay, and Stanley Park (corner of Georgia and Denman).

peopel just don;t know the city well enough. In the UK you just head for the core in most major cities (over than London). Given its all going on DT, that where everyone is.

Nobody remembers how the people around Denman reacted when the Odyssey wanted to move there? I am sure they are all very, very happy that nobody is coming. God forbid anyone walks down Denman after 11pm.

And the highest coin in the realm, a new Ipsos public opinion poll released today regarding BC'ers opinion of the Olympics. I always knew that the Olympic tsunami would roll in commencing on opening day.

Quote:
British Columbians give Opening Ceremony a Gold Medal

Majority of viewers felt proud to be Canadian (90%) and enjoyed the event overall (88%)

Olympic Excitement in BC Rises (78% very/somewhat ‘excited’ compared to a week ago 53%)

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

“Friday’s highly anticipated Opening Ceremony clearly struck a chord with the people of British Columbia,” says Steve Mossop, President of Market Research Canada West for Ipsos.

All aspects of the Opening Ceremony received excellent and good ratings by over eight in ten viewers including the overall enjoyment of the event (88%), the way Vancouver and the province were portrayed (88%), the selection of the stars and celebrities (88%), and the selection of Wayne Gretzky as the final torchbearer (85%).

It appears that excitement levels for the Olympic Games are rising among British Columbians after the initially hesitant anticipation about the Games prior to their start. Nearly eight in ten British Columbians (78%) are very or somewhat excited about the Games -- a full 25 points higher from a poll released last week (53% very/somewhat excited).

This rising excitement levels in the host province have translated into a growing number saying that they are currently following the Olympic events. Over seven in ten (74%) British Columbians are following the games very or somewhat closely.

“British Columbians are very proud of every aspect of the games thus far, and the level of excitement continues to build as the Games progress,” adds Mossop “Ratings are through the roof on nearly every element of the Games this far, the optimism is pervasive”.

British Columbians’ views on the way VANOC is running the games are fairly positive after the first weekend of Olympic events. About seven in ten (73%) give VANOC an excellent (26%) or good (47%) rating overall.

Took in the women's curling this afternoon. Vancouver should be proud - sold-out crowd, very loud and rowdy - for curling, LOL! There were also scalpers, which was funny.

One of the better venues in terms of organization, security, concessions, etc. Major line-ups at King Ed station, unfortunately, so many people were walking all the way to City Hall station.
