Check out this hilarious CNN video (which is currently on the front page of its website) about our government's etiquette and behaviour manual. It involves funny street interviews of Vancouverites:

Post edited, please keep anything to do with the opening ceremonies in the other thread. People do not want to stumble onto and spoilers here.

A wrap is oing up on the Federal Govt Office Tower - 800 Burrard - overlooking Robson Square - better late than never I suppose!

And what's that on Patina? Looks like a blank wrap...

FYI Google used a tricycle with a camera mounted on the back to take pics of the Olympic village...you can see it in the reflection in the front of the community centre. There is a guy with an orange vest riding it
There are Millenium Water metal emblems on most of the buildings...you would think they would be ashamed to display them considering we bailed them out.

^ Fortress is the one who needs to hide in shame, not Millennium Water. It's just one chuckle after another with Fortress.

I blame both. Millenium had the big balls to make a crazy bid to the city and set ridiculous sale prices that very few bought.

The original blame lies with the NPA council at the time though. Other, well backed bids were on the table (Concord Pacific). I only hope they break even at the end of the day.

Hmmmmm ... interesting take on the hula hoop! .. with an Olympic spin. Sounds like a great idea.

A surge in Olympic spirit has led to a shortage of hula hoops in Metro Vancouver, with toy stores and wholesalers reporting the plastic rings are flying off the shelves as people snap them up to create Olympic displays.

The iconic five-ring logo, using metre-wide plastic hula hoops, has started appearing in windows, yards and on balconies as Metro Vancouver residents embrace the Olympic spirit

Standing in a warehouse full of toys, the owner of Great West Wholesale, Michael Shew, points to a row of cardboard containers usually reserved for the plastic rings.

'I find that people buy them in fives.'—Kaboodles toy store owner Lee Richmond. "This is normally where they are, in these empty boxes here," he said. "They're totally empty. As of two days ago they were over-brimming."

In a normal three-week period, Shew's wholesale operation might sell three dozen hula hoops to local toy stores, but on Tuesday alone he sold 100, he told CBC News

OH, they are not just for people creating displays.......

Source: ME! Downtown on Granville infront of Granville Staion, yesterday.

The 2 "musicians" were "playing" their instruments while the "girl" did a "dance" with the hula hoop. NO ONE WATCHED!

It was like people felt it was rude to watch them, like seeing someone breastfeed. People would be looking around and glance at them, then advert their gaze like they saw some nip and didn't want to get caught.

Source: Me

Spandy Andy had a much bigger crowd at Granville and Robson.

I've had a couple of "15 minutes of fame" moments hanging out at robson square. I was interviewed by a Time magazine reporter and had my picture taken by a photographer working for the IOC.

Where do these events get announced? Had no clue about the Robson Square performances and fireworks. I guess you have to walk around Downtown at random to figure out what is actually going on...

The tall ship is docked at the bottom of Lonsdale Ave tonight. It's an inspiring sight, to say the least.
