Wow, the fireworks outside BC Place were great...caught me by surprise when my room lit up and everything started to shake! hahaha amazing!

Could you describe it more?


1) How long was the fireworks display?

2) Were they large aerial fireworks like the Celebration of Light?

3) or were they rapid fireworks on the rim of the roof like at Athens and Beijing?

someone i no longer talk too lives at right at bc place if we were still talking i could go watch the show at his place and than look out the window and see the fireworks

I hope they have more fireworks planned, the aerial kind that was used in Beijing. Perhaps they will be testing those on Wednesday as those shells are expensive?

As for the fireworks, They seemed to be white and red/pinkish (Canada flag colors?).

They blasted all around the rim but didnt go too high. Im not sure about the celebration of light because im new in Vancouver but im assuming u mean those fireworks that go really high and explode? That wasnt the case here. It didnt last long either, maybe about 15 seconds or less which I really HOPE is not the case for the real opening. Not sure how to explain the firework itself, they were kinda like "streamers". The fireworks went off twice aswell...about 10 minutes inbetween each take. Everyone was already outside of the stadium going home when they went off.

So it seems like what you saw wasn't the real thing, it was just a small and cost-conscious test to make sure systems are working. I would think there would be a live full-test during Wednesday's rehearsal followed by a full blowout for the big night on Friday.

So, does anybody know about the "official" camera policy for the Opening Ceremony?

I want to bring my DSLR, however, even the Canucks don't allow that for some reason I'm really hoping the Olympics will.

I don't want to wait in line for security, only to be told I can't bring it in!

I could see them doing one "spray" of fireworks after certain segments, and immediately following the cauldron is lit they'll do a 1-2 minute blowout fireworks display...that'll how the ceremony will end.

Just curious. Is BC Place roof fabics fire resistant?
Even though the roof is due for replacement after the Games, we still need it for the Closing Ceremony.
