Good point, the torch run is over by 1pm, when all of those bums are just getting out of bed in their parents' houses in the burbs, before heading downtown to "represent the poor".

Well, disturbed looking white people usually always DO know what's right for everyone else.

Funny you wouldn't even see this many white people on any given day downtown

Even my friend's dad (who was part of the Tiananmen student protests) look down on the APC. He always notes how it is ususally caucasians and aboriginals at these protests - he remarks that the rest of us are busy paying for their share of the taxes.

I dunno. I say let them protest and be disruptive. They're part of us. But I draw the line if they want to be rude to tourists and people just coming to visit.

I've never really seen any Aboriginal people at these things protesting their alleged displacement. Usually only those white people...

They, without a doubt, aim to be disruptive, not just simply protest. They want to make things as difficult as possible. Then they denounce the security budget as not necessary

If you go on to their websites you can read about all their plans. They plan to block roads (sea to sky anyone?), overload security at venues, etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing some oppression.

You and me both. I'm betting a big proportion of these "professional protesters" are living off either trust funds, rich parents, or student loans. They have little experience in the reality of day-to-day life, simply taking up the cause of the day, and spending more time patting each other on the back as compared to trying to make real change.

What I'd really like to see is regular taxpaying citizens "take matters into their own hands" with a beatdown of some of these chumps. Just a pipe dream though...

Thanks to all for posting information about the downtown Vancouver route.

So, judging by the map, it looks like the torch will pass through Main and Hastings. How cool is that? It's a gutsy move by VANOC, but I think it will work.

The flame just finished its leg in Chilliwack, and as we speak it's now speeding its way on the Trans-Canada to Abbotsford!

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Buble and Walter Gretzky are among the big names who will run with the Olympic torch when it arrives in Vancouver later this week.

Mr. Schwarzenegger - a former movie star who is now Governor of California - will run with the torch just after 7:00 am Friday morning in Stanley Park. He will be followed later in the morning by Mr. Gretzky, whose son Wayne Gretzky is among the top contenders to light the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony on Friday; and Rolly Fox, father of Terry Fox. Betty Fox, Terry's mother, is also a favourite to light the Olympic cauldron.

Other torchbearers announced Monday morning include astronaut Julie Payette, singer/songwriter Jann Arden, former B.C. Lions player Luis Passaglia, former Canucks players Richard Brodeur and Stan Smyl, and former Vancouver Whitecaps player and current team president Bob Lenarduzzi.

they are also wearing clothes that were probably bought at stores that are owned by businesses even value village is a big corporation and the clothes were probably made by under paid workers in china not to metnion that their signs are made with paper and wood products and markers which are probably harmful to the environment and some have leather shoes which are not animal friendly

Seriously, was there some kind of dress code for this protest? Drab, muted earth tones only please.

When I see a group of people all dressed the same at a protest I can't help but think they actually have no personal opinion or intelligence and are just there to fit into their own personal clique. Like highschool, but with fingerless gloves, beanies and cardboard signs.

Arnold running with the torch is a bit of an odd choice. For excellence in helping to destroy the 7th largest economy in the World, or something ?

That said, if someone is gonna tackle a torch bearer, I'd pay money to see them try.

THEY WILL BE TERMINATED! Hah hah. Hah.

Star power for Olympic Torch home stretch

METRO VANCOUVER/CKNW AM 980
Nafeesa Karim | Email news tips to Nafeesa
2/8/2010

Astronauts, entertainers and "The Governator" will carry the Olympic flame in the coming days.

Canadian astronaut Julie Payette will carry the torch on Wednesday afternoon in North Vancouver.

On Thursday, Jann Arden, Richard Brodeur, and Michael Buble will carry the flame.

When the flame arrives at a celebration at Live-City Yaletown, the cauldron will be lit by Ken Lyotier, the founder of "United We Can".

On Friday morning, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will carry the flame in Stanley Park, along with Rolly Fox, father of Terry Fox.

Later that day, Wayne Gretzky's father Walter will carry the torch, along with the heads of the London and Sochi Olympic organizing committees, Stan Smyl, Bob Lenarduzzi and Lui Passaglia.
Hmmm...

So no Betty Fox and no Wayne Gretzky -
I can see a leg by Betty Fox with a hand-off to Wayne Gretzky at the opening ceremony, as the media has suggested.

That's just stupid...unless these people have large charities that contribute to helping people, they shouldn't be allowed to carry the torch. What have they done that gives them the right to carry it? I guess they know people who are heads of the major sponsors...

Well, in addition to the thousands of "normal" people, you do need some big names to get publicity.

I would have thought they'd kinda make sure they are Canadian, at least, though.

Besides, Arnold has contributed great things to humanity such as "Jingle All The Way" and "Kindergarten Cop".
