I have started taking North- and West Vancouver-originating buses into the downtown core (from Denman and Georgia) and notice a peculiar announcement when the bus arrives at its stop just outside the Canada Line station at Georgia and Granville. The in-bus announcement says "This stop for the Granville Skytrain Station", but no mention of the VCC station of the Canada Line.

Good point.
I guess the flip side of the coin would ask whether properties should be held for an entire generation (i.e. by empty nesters) when it could be freed up for development closer to the city centre, rather than expanding onto vacant lands farther afield.

According to Translink #3 Main, #20, #22 buses were delayed by traffic today. So now both C-Line and these N-S bus routes are unlikely be good option for heading downtown during Olympics?

Not necessarily. 15 has access to Olympic Lanes.

No matter what, Canada Line is going to be congested, but it's still fast. You just have to deal with "packed" conditions that's all. Notice that if there are lineups, it's only going to occur at select stations, just like opening day. Recall opening day, YVR-Airport had two hour lineups, but 0 lineups at Templeton.

OMG - Canada Line is becoming a total CrimeTrain. I mentioned a few weeks ago I was at Best Buy in Lansdowne and they said theft had totally gone up since C-Line opened.

So today two guys get on at Lansdowne. One makes a call and without even bothering to lower his voice says something like "Carlos, I've got a 1 terrabyte hard drive for a Mac. 60 bucks. Meet me at the entrance to Waterfront"!?

I was on the Canada Line between 5-6.30pm today and man was it packed...I wonder what record breaking ridership figure it will break today. I'm gonna say 135,000?

And I have to say that the City Centre Station staircases/escalators are far too south of the platform, they should have been centred in the middle of the station...

Here's a secret from a survivor of commuting on much larger subway systems:
After a few trips, you should already know what door on the train is closest to the stair /escalator /elevator you will be using to get out of the station. Use the time waiting for the train to arrive to stand at that position on the platform so when you get on the train, you are at (or near) the proper door you want to use to exit the train.

Well, I'm just saying...generally and functionally speaking. The north staircase always gets the brunt of the passengers, as it's in the middle of the platform, so you end up with a huge lineup for the escalator while few climb the stairs next to it. While the north staircase/escalator is being used, nobody's going up the south staircase/escalator because it's on the south end of the platform!

Cambie corridor (C-Line or bus) is still the best bet, I agree.

As of tonight, #8 fraser is also added to the mix by Translink

No. I was just shocked that he didn't take any effort to hide his theft. I was wondering if I should have moved away and then phoned the cops. But then scum like that wouldn't even get a slap on the wrist by a judge, so what's the point.

And now that you've observed the sheeple in action, you can pre-position yourself at the proper train door to use the south staircase & zoom past the crowd at that station.

Sometimes is smarter NOT to follow the crowd.

I was wondering why I was so underwelmed by the Vancouver transit plan - I mean, there are improvements, but I was honestly expecting more.

Then I looked at Whistler - OMG, that is what I was expecting. Whistler has gone from around 39 buses to 130. For the games, there are new bus routes serving areas never before had transit. And the service is largely 24 hours, including Pemberton (every 30 minutes through the night) and Squamish (every 20 minutes through the night). In Whistler, 24 hour service is offered to most areas, and the main runs roughly following highway 99 will see buses running every 3 minutes, and every 15 minutes after 1am to 5am. There's even an express route running along the main parts with a frequency of every 10 minutes or better 24 hours per day.

Now that is impressive. Way to go BC Transit.

Eh, it's a Friday night and the cultural olympiad is in full swing.. what part of the expo-line was this? I presume that you were west of Stadium..

Not sure if it is Olympic related. But I definitely noticed a increase in transit usage.

Going to work I take the #22 from 41st to VCC Clark. It is busy but so busy that I can't find a seat and usually in the back. Yesterday I actuall had to sit up front. I get on the M-line at VCC-Clark which is easy to get a seat. What I have noticed is when it gets to broadway before most people got a seat now there are a lot of people standing.

Going home after midnight. I get off at Com-Broadway and catch the #20 12:35 at broadway going SB. I've always been able to easily get a seat and have no one around. For the first time last night I couldn't even get a seat last night and the night before alll the seats were full.

So I've noticed and increase in transit use in the past 2 weeks or so.
