I agree - I've been "visiting" this thread from the Hamilton section. It's almost like being there.

lol I hope the Australians have better things to do than watch TV right now.

Global led in with "The Australians are already causing problems at the Athletes Village..."

Yeah, I know what she meant but very poorly worded

Looks like the Viaducts being closed has caused chaos lol. Bumper to bumper traffic through-out downtown. One guy called in 1 hour late for work, despite being 2 minutes away.

Is there a wrap going on Shangri La? I saw something white draped on the north side from Lions Gate.

Maybe somehow NBC, who is renting out the entire Shangri-la, convinced them to put a wrap on the hotel levels But probably not lol.

BC Place evacuated

Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)

2/5/2010

A possible security breach has forced the evacuation of Vancouver's BC Place...The site of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Olympics.

Hundreds of volunteers taking part in rehearsals were cleared out of the building....With the only explanation given being 'security risks.'

Sources have told CKNW the volunteers were supposed to be there until 11PM, but they were cleared out less than two hours into their shifts.

Well, no matter how secure you "think" you are, you never are.

Personally I'm just waiting for someone to pull the fire alarm during the opening ceremony.

With some obvious exceptions, driving around Vancouver proper has actually been better than it normally is. Besides Olympic lanes, which regular drivers can't use any time, the lack of parking on streets like Broadway and Cambie etc gives an extra lane for buses, taking them out of the way of the regular lanes. And on streets where parking has been temporarily removed but there's no Olympic lane, like 12th Ave, parts of Clark Drive etc etc, there's a whole added lane. Plus so many people are not driving until the Olympics are over. It's really not that bad if you pay attention to the road closures and take the best routes available. If you try using the viaduct to get into downtown, you're in for a very long wait, but detour down 2nd Ave to the Cambie bridge or just take Powell into downtown, it's not that bad.
Now parking, that's another story...

And a side note, I noticed team Sweden has the same teal-coloured jackets as Olympic volunteers.
