The stress factor is definitely sad, for everyone. Though this should help fill up availability pockets elsewhere AND there are still lots of privateers attempting to rent their places. Maybe some of them will be able to do that now.

I'm looking out my window now and there is a huge line-up starting on Richards St (near the bay parkade), wrapping around and down Georgia towards Hudson Bay, then turning again at Seymour Street (on the side opposite Hudson Bay (i.e. the line does not seem to be heading to the Bay). But I can't see where it ends up unfortunately, though my guess would be one somewhere along Seymour Street on the block just north of Georgia Ave.

Anyone have any idea what it is? I suspect it's somewhat Olympic related. I've never seen people line up there before. Perhaps people are picking up tickets from another country? Or volunteers are picking up information or credentials or uniforms?

The only tell-tale sign (which doesn't tell much) is a number of people seem to have a turquoise blue type jacket on. Not a lot of people, but more than you'd expect in a random line-up of folks.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's something to do with Olympic volunteers or workers, but I figure someone here might actually know since some of you are more directly involved with the events. I'm just curious.

Volunteers get a free ticket to the Opening Ceremonies dress rehearsal on the 10th, and can buy a second ticket for $50. I would imagine this is what the line up is for.

Sign of the times we are living in. Due to "insurance" reasons, they can't go in to somebodies house.

I mean, you have to pass background checks to go on a field trip with your own child these days, you certainly can't house OTHER peoples children.

I heard the reason one of the kids can't accept spare rooms or peoples houses is because of his medical condition. He needs something that is wheelchair accessible. That is not easy to find except in hotels or ppl that have family members in wheelchairs

lol James Duthie at TSN said this today:

"Did Australian radio show today. They thought there was no snow anywhere in BC, and the Olympics were toast. The world is confused."

The Candian media is certainly trying to PORTAY it that way, and you can't blame the World for thinking it

Canadian media does a good job of putting down Canada every time. International media obviously will follow suit when they hear all the negativity from the Canadian media

Yes, the media scene in Canada is very strange. We're very self-deprecating compared to many other Countries media, like Japan (or especially) USA. Maybe that is just Canadian culture, and why we're viewed as "modest" compared to others. Most probably genuinely don't believe Canada is "the best" place on Earth, as many other people think of their own Country. I guess in a sense fierce nationalism isn't *great* but a little may be OK, too?

It is nice our politicians don't have to fakely espouse their love for the Country and God every time they go on TV like our Southern neighbors. Even Obama panders to that, talking about how he gets his sermons and bible passages on his blackberry everyday, which help him decide on his World view I think people crucified W for the same thing lol But ahh well, now we're off track.

IT WOULD BE NICE to see some positive stories for once The World *is* watching and is actually believing a lot of the half truths our media tells
