I read that CTV will be broadcasting up on some perch from Granville (or Burrard) / Robson. Don't know if that's true

Like, a location other than their actual studio.

Would this be it? Atop the Art Gallery at Robson Square? Logistically, this location makes much more sense given the road closures and the distance from the Science World site to their Burrard Street studio.

Hopefully they will be covering the zip line towers with some banners...it's an eyesore at the moment.

All 1000 security cameras have been turned on now. Don't embarrass yourself

Quote:
With just 10 days to go until the opening of the 2010 Winter Games, nearly 1,000 security cameras have been turned on to monitor the crowds, which are already starting to fill the streets.

About 900 of the cameras were installed by the RCMP-led Olympic security team around venues for the Games, while another 90 cameras were installed by the City of Vancouver around public sites in the downtown area.

The Integrated Security Unit team said without the cameras more police officers would be needed to keep an eye on Olympic visitors. But privacy watchdogs have expressed concerns the monitoring tramples civic rights.

But the RCMP and the city have both said the cameras will be dismantled after the Paralympic Games end in March and the recordings will only be kept for a limited time.

The 2010 Olympics will run from Feb. 12-28 across Metro Vancouver and at Whistler.

Zombie Walk 2010! is going to happen february 12th - the day of the opening ceremonies at the olympic stadium!

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=282684311809&ref=nf

Quote:
Type: Causes - Protest
Network: Global
Date: Friday, February 12, 2010
Time: 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: BC Place Stadium

Description
Because the 2010 games promise an enormous turnout, I think that giving the world a good old-fashioned zombie-welcoming would be the perfect way to kick it off, so come on down, and invite all of your zombie-friends to witness what will supposedly be bigger than Expo '86. But make sure you spread the word to whomever you can, BC Place is a Big Place!

No ticket? No Problem! Personally, I think it may even be more appropriate to hold this event outside the stadium, even though you're all welcome to bring it inside the stadium.

UPDATE: I suppose I should've made it clearer when I created this, anyhoo; the reason the time of the event spreads throughout the entire 2010 schedule is because, ideally (for me), there would be zombie walks before (and possibly after, to accomplish this, you'll notice the time has changed, slightly) the events started (and ended, respectively), and if not for every event, then at least during the opening and closing ceremonies. I chose BC place because, obviously, it would be impossible for everyone attending to zombie-walk their way to the other events because of distance and scheduling problems. BC Place is relatively central to various neighbourhoods and public transit stops, but more importantly, it's where the biggest and most important events are taking place. So even though I can't put it in the event time, it's been changed to before and after the events concerning the 2010 games take place.

ONE FINAL NOTE: Personally, I haven't yet graduated and may not even make it to the events at BC place, but to keep the spirit of this event alive (or half-alive, depending on how you look at it), I encourage those who can't make it to dress like zombies at whatever events they may attend. Or, better yet, host some additional olympic zombie-walks of your own!

Hmmm...it's the Olympics. You'd think there would be some sort of pro-Canada rally/celebration at an Olympic host city, not a Halloween-like zombie walk of all things in the middle of February. :p

Free Concerts in Surrey B.C for Olympics 2010 Kickoff

Just because Olympics is mainly for the sports fans that doesn't mean music lovers are left out in the cold. No siree', being a hub for varied musical tastes, Canada has put an added twist to the Olympic celebrations.

They are including free concerts starting on Feb 12th thru Feb 28th in Surrey B.C. at Holland Park. Basically, just across the Bellingham border, closer for some of us than going over to Eastern Washington.

I, for one is completely excited about this, considering I couldn't even come close to being able to afford tickets for the sporting events. This is one way to show Olympic spirit without shelling out alot of dough!

From the looks of the line-up, there is bit of variety to satisify everybodys musical taste.

It is quite the festival, with several groups each night (except mon & tues) including headliners to close the shows. Those headliners include Blue Rodeo,Delhi 2 Dublin,Hot Hot Heat, 54-40, Mother Mother,Tokyo Police Club,The Paperboys,Arkells and my personal favorite Sam Roberts (previously posted an article about). That's just to name a few.

I have met some very nice Canadians along the way, who have traveled (some a great distance) to see shows in Seattle. So, let us show support for the Olympics, our love for music and travel northward the approx 2 1/2 hrs to Canada

Confuse the tourists?

These new signs are very well done! But am I missing something here or are the arrows not pointing in the right directions? Downtown should be left and the West End is straight ahead, etc... This was taken facing west on Davie Street at Hornby.

This one was in the opposite direction. Facing east and Yaletown:

What if you gave a party and nobody came? News 1130 reports sales of rooms on the cruise ship Norwegian Star aren't what the backers expected, and they could be in financial trouble:

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - There are concerns that financial troubles for the company behind a cruise ship hotel commissioned for the Olympics will affect plans for travellers who have already booked. One travel expert says Olympic visitors planning to stay on the Norwegian Star shouldn't worry yet.

Newwest Special Projects is the company chartering the boat and it says sales are not what were expected. The marketing website for the project has been dismantled and there is no information on it for how to book by email or phone. If you call the company, the phone just rings. Tourism Vancouver has been trying to learn more about the status of the project, with no luck so far...

http://www.news1130.com/news/local/artic...oking-cruise-ship-for-olympic-travellers

They're also reporting the temporary RV parks still have lots of space available.
