Yep, he's still got the peacocks, 2 male & 2 female. He takes a very good care of them.

Nouveau, what palms are you growing? Are you a palm nut like myself and DruidCity?

While reviewing old postings & threads, I've noticed that the pictures that we post on here that are linked to Photobucket are missing while the pictures posted through Flickr are still there even though, like in my case, the Flickr account hasn't been touched in a very long time. So, I recommend Flickr!

That's good. I saw them several years ago. Such cool looking creatures, if I didn't live in the city I might think about getting one/some if it weren't for the noise.

Only slightly. I've got a Canary Island Date and a Windmill, plus a few cycads of course. And down at the beach we have a few Sabals. I'm more of a casual admirer.

I'll bet the Canary Island date & the cycads all has got brown fronds now after the nasty freezes, nouveau.

Anyway, back on the track more relevant to the purpose of this thread: Any news about the GM building facelift?

Gm Bulding : I saw some construction going on at the base of the building the other day but there are no significant changes as of yet.

This picture is from a few weeks ago, and I believe I already posted it, but as you can see, the first tower floor is boarded up.

I have heard and seen work on the "GM" Building being done late in the night the past few times I have been downtown.

I'm more worried about my citrus, the cold completely fried my lime.

But yeah, no real development. Working on the Van An, the Candlewood Suites has machines and everything on site, but I can't see anything in the way of a structure, still slowly finishing up the courthouse.

The commissioning of the USS INDEPENDENCE had a good turnout, despite the rain. Apparently the LCS-1 (FREEDOM), the competitor, has had some pretty bad stability issues that need to be addressed. This info is being sent to Congress, and will hopefully bid well for our ship, especially since ours is without question stable and had fewer serious issues than FREEDOM.

Well there are various uploading/hosting sites for your photos. I use photobucket.com, then take the "direct link" of the photo, and when posting on here, there is a yellow box with a mountain (insert image) and there i paste the web address of the photo.

I recommend Flickr because they don't cancel accounts that are inactive for more than 90 days like Photobucket, resulting in missing images in old postings later on.

I wanted to attend USS Independence's commissioning so badly. With my wife's being enlisted in the Navy active duty and this ship's being tied to my hometown, it means a lot.

What work is being done on the Van An?

Ok thanx Alxx

As of right now they are restoring some of the broken tiles on the Van Antwerp. Royal Street is looking nice and it gives a cosmo vibe. North Royal needs more development.

I don't know- wouldn't hold my breath. I just saw that it is expected to be complete March 2011.

I work at the Fort Conde welcome center. My boss who runs the place knows a lot of people downtown. She told me that they plan to do something different with the top of the building and that they're still working on the bank part of the tower (first floor).

I don't know if she overheard that or if she maybe was incorrectly reciting something she read or speculating.

Hope it's not another RSA knock-off spire. Mobile's got enough of those now.

Well, if the way that Alxx describes it is correct, I should be something different. Plus, I'm thinking that Bronner has sensed that the public is tired of the spireness that has already taken place.

Whatever it is, it probably won't be a spire, it just wouldn't look right. I'm sure that if it's not gonna be a spire, he's come up with something that will fit in nicely.

*pays that it doesn't turn out to be a giant jester hat crown*

Just wanted to pass along to any UAB alums or UAB fans in Mobile, AL... there is now a UAB radio affiliate in Mobile.

WPAS (89.1FM)

The station will air UAB football and basketball games beginning this Saturday when #25 UAB takes on UTEP.
