sounds like if you are a ticket holder you should check out the contra ban list

the news just did a report - confiscated items WILL NOT BE RETURNED! the RCMP dude said they do not have the infastructure or facilities to take down peoples addresses etc and any items they seize will not be given back

basically - no backpacks, no flash photography, no recording devices, cell phones are probably best left at home or not used when at a venue, no bringing your own drinks, no glass bottles and the list seemed to go on

when at a venue you are there for the duration of the event and must use the transportation provided as per a scheduled time if its a venue that required transport - such as cypres...

sounds reasonable but I think a lot of people will not be happy

Pretty much everything they listed can't be brought in to an NHL game or any concert. With the exception of umbrellas... and that's just cruel in Vancouver!

The only difference is, you'll be going through metal detectors, rather than being patted down by angry looking security guards like every Canucks game.

Also, make sure you arrive at the Opening / Closing ceremonies 3 - 4 HOURS early, and hockey games 1 - 2 hours!! Like we have all day or something

the big problem is that people will not get items back - the police guy said there is no procedure and they will not be taking addresses and names etc for banned items

Some pics from a lunchtime meandering around Olympic Village. Apologies for some of the blurry shots, I bought a new point & shoot to supplement my DSLR and I'm still trying to get used to it:

No man's land. This is what Quebec Street looks like now that's it's closed to traffic. There's a tent going up further north down the street, on the closed street:

Pedestrians and cyclists have to use this one little path that was recently widened to get down Quebec. The other side of the street is off limits to the public:

McD's, all gussied up and recently renovated:

Olympic sponsors have overtaken all of the billboards in the surrounding area, even up Terminal. Although I did manage to spot an old Spanner ad on the other side of the security fence!

I really have no idea what this is all about:

Science World was open for the last day today until March as it becomes the home for the Russian pavilion:

Just decided I'm coming out to Vancouver for the Olympics.

I'm so pumped! I don't have any tickets to any of the events yet (my family has a few connections

), but it will still be sweet to be in with all the action! Also, my first time in Vancouver.

Who else is going? (aside from people in the immediate area)

there is a big park - mundy park, coqutilam centre is okay, the parks at port moody, buntzen lake, whote pines beach are nice

If my friend can't find someone to stay with on the mainland, we may have to stay in Nanaimo (I like Nanaimo, but it would 🞵🞵🞵🞵 to have to ferry over and back every day/night).

The best thing to happen as a result of the 2010 Winter Olympics. After 20+ years of complete neglect, SEARS is cleaning their gigantic eyesore downtown!!

Considering Granville / Robson will be the busiest street during the Olympics, this is a very good call

Will do. I'm going with three friends, but one is at a camp in North Van cooking for the military, so there may just be three of us. I'll be spending 3-5 days in Vancouver from about the 15th-19th. I can't speak for my friends, but with or without I'd be down for a tour.

I'll be coming from Stoon as well. I'll probably be volunteering at the Saskatchewan pavillion as well convincing people to move here as I plan to move away

their pavillion is so small compared to Quebec which is nect door and dwarfs it and ontarios which is huge

Quebec's looks really cool though

also Science world is now Covered in SOCHI 2014 art and banners etc...

^ Well lah-tee-dah. I don't think it's anything to sneeze at coming from a province of just over 1 mil. Also, I don't believe the 6 story StratoSphere is completed/...inflated yet.
