when me and my friends crossed to street towards sears they all commented on how ugly it is and at least they could wash it

Why is an architectural gem being concealed in tacky wrapping paper? This building should be highlighted, not hidden.

I agree. I am not a fan of the wrapping paper at all. If they had to do something like this, they should have gone the route the Bay did.

Yeah, I saw it last evening in person. It really doesn't look good. The message it sends is "this building is closed so we wanted to put something distracting in front of it."

It's the first thought that would cross my mind if I didn't know what the building was. Strange really.

I do think if they had gone the Bay route of putting strips between the columns, it might work. But just sitting in front of the building like that really doesn't add anything. In fact it subtracts. The facade of the building is quite nice.

It really is a shame the VAG doesn't do more with this beautiful building they have. It's as if they don't know what they have, constantly putting up distracting, ugly facades (though this one is the worst I've ever seen), having the two main entrances closed, keeping the plaza in a relative state of disrepair and having those AWFUL half-van art pieces laying around it!

A little landscaping and some new lighting treatment would go a long long way.

It isn't going to stay like that is it? Why hide the columns? The building is one of the most amazing pieces of architecture in the city.

I hope this is juts temporary to hide them doing some cleaning or some real banner. You know, to keep everything safe from the elements until the big day.

If this is what its going to be like, who ever thought of this should be lynched infront of it.

It doesn't look very good, no. But... the fact that the piece, hand painted by a Taiwanese artist, is called "A Modest Veil", is funny.

Maybe they could move the blue crane to the side of the building as well, when not in use. I know they are always doing little projects with it, such as the latest floral arrangement . But does it have to sit right in front of the facade? Last night it was sitting between the fountain and Georgia Avenue. So anyone walking or driving by would have to look "through" the equipment to see the floral print blocking the facade of the building.

That and the three vehicles parked overnight on the little concrete pad near the Olympic clock will add a certain something to any photos one might want to take. There's casual, and then there's amateur . . . I think they're tipping toward the latter when it comes to their approach to that space.

What's funny is I think one of the best things about the building is the use of the upstairs area on the other side as a cafe. It's really classy . . . reminds me of places you'd see in Manhattan. But the main facade facing Georgia is really treated like a backyard. I just don't get it.

We'll be seeing a lot more Taiwanese art. Vancouver - Taiwan are doing a big art exchange.

At least have it cut into strips so you can see the columns.

The VAG/old court house is a work of Art itself, designed by a BC Legend. This is a total slap in the face to all BCers to hide our home grown piece of art with this imported BS.

that wrapping is very ugly on the VAG. Too bad they couldn't do it the way the Bay did theirs. It could've looked a lot nicer, especially since the world is coming to town in a few weeks.
