I overheard someone in the lobby say something about some unique sparrows arriving around these parts in April . . . let's walk down to the waterfront and look for them.

AWWRRR! There huge! Quick, grab the kids!

The crane is up for Pinnacle False Creek, right across the lane from Foundry.

Those sparrows look cool, also I love that red lighting, has a nice Christmas feel for the season, hehe.

Agreed. I think they could turn out as popular as those laughing statues on denman.
I think those are great as well, but, to be picky, they should have been placed on a cemented or bricked plaza area. The grass around them has been turned into a real nasty mushy mess. For me, that aspect takes away from that corner's beauty.

The plaza lighting changes colours - saw it on Thursday night - saw purple and green, too.

Thought I might as well post some pics I took yesterday:

I just realized there are people on the penthouse balcony in this shot...

Some sort of new signage / lighting feature...

Oh, thanks, that's one of the live celebration sites in the first two photos. Great update, Raggedy!

The live sites are both on the other side of False Creek (at David Lam and Larwill Parks). I think that tent is probably for access to the village...

Neighbourhood Energy Unit converts waste water to energy

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The City of Vancouver has unveiled a new building that converts sewer waste water into energy. The Neighbourhood Energy Unit is the first of its kind in North America, and athletes at the Olympic Village will be among the first to benefit from the $30 million project.

The project-including the exhaust stacks at the south end of the Cambie Street Bridge--has been four years in the making, and will power 1,600 homes in the False Creek neighbourhood. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson wants Canada to lead the world in 'green' energy. "If we get these models right here, at the outset, it really stands us well for advancing this work and creating many more models throughout our country."

The Neighbourhood Energy Unit will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent. The federal government contributed $10 million to the project.

The wayfinding signs are only being allowed due to the area not being nearly as complete as the city had hoped, they were expecting more parcels to be completed by now providing enough residential density to support the retail there, as it now doesnt appear that the only parcels will be completed for a while they compromised and have allowed the wayfinding signs to try and attract people from outside the area.

Me too. Watch the CoV turn a huge profit on these puppies once they go up for resale, and then watch the naysayers eat crow..

Pacific Boulevard experienced several waves of retail tenancies before the area became populated enough to support retail.
