^^^ The brown building right behind the rising steel. It is adjacent to 7WTC. Its exact address is 140 West Street. You can see it here from NYguy's photo:

The Verizon Building prior to 9-11, was perhaps little known to most people.

If the roof is 1373 the building has 105 floors. the last 3 are above that point in the crown so it makes no sense to call it 108 floors. If you were you would have to label it 1407.

I have nothing to base this on, but is this the material they are using on the outside of the base? It seems to fit the bill, but it could be something else.

BTW, so that some of you don't keep asking the same questions, keep this Port Authority schedule handy. The link below gives a schedule of Freedom Tower markers....

Quote:
http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/milestones.html

A detailed look at the PA's schedule for the Freedom Tower keeps with a 2011 topping out, with completion of the curtain wall around the third quarter of 2012 (beginning summer 2010). The building will be complete by the end of 2013.

A little more on next quarter (winter) milestones...
http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/pdf/3Q2009_Report.pdf

•Steel Erection Complete – 20th Floor
By the 1st Quarter of 2010, steel erection should reach the 20th floor level. It is at this level – above the reinforced base of 1WTC – that the construction of the typical floor sections begin.

•West Street – Water, Sewer and Fire Services Complete
These represent the connection of major utility services to One World Trade Center, which will provide the building with domestic water, water for the sprinkler system, and connection to the City’s sewer system.

•Concrete Core & Slabs Complete – 3rd Floor
The Concrete Contractor will complete this core work, having waited for the Steel Contractor to advance work enough to create an appropriate lag. The concrete core and slab placement for the 3rd floor will occur once the steel installation is sufficiently ahead in order to ensure uninterrupted work.

Hey guys. On which position will 1WTC stand in the list of tallest buildings of the list of the tallest buildings in the world upon completion in 2013?? It´s too bad the the Freedom Tower won´t be the tallest building in the world. I whould like to see the word´s tallest in NYC again.

I made this based off the current, confirmed list of the world's tallest buildings, and infused it with kazpmk's list from SSC of ones still under construction. If it is red and not ranked it is under construction. I went up to the top 20 current so you can see how drastically the list is going to change in the next few years.

That translucent concrete for the base should look great at night when light from inside makes it glow, but what about during the day when there is more light coming from outside than in? It seems that it would just look like ordinary concrete, which isn't fitting.

No, they wont be using that stuff, though it looks pretty cool. They well clad the base in prismatic glass or plastic, depending on how close it is to the street.

I also doubt that stuff has a sufficient blast rating to double as a protective wall.

PS: only the lobby well have protective walls, the mechanical floors that make up the rest of the base well have prismatic glass pannels with stainless steel grating behind it (to keep the flying rats out).

PPS: Great pics NyGuy

Aren´t there a few mistakes. The Pingan International Finance Centre will be 508m tall. That´s lower than 1 WTC. It´s the same height as Taipei 101.

1 WTC in 2015

There are several possibilities, I will show them here:

Good case:

1.) Burj Dubai (800+)
2.) Shanghai Tower (632)
3.) China 117 Tower (597)
4.) Abraj Al Bait (577)
5.) World Trade Center One (541)

Bad case:
1.) Burj Dubai (800+)
2.) Shanghai Tower (632)
3.) Chicago Spire (610)
4.) China 117 Tower (597)
5.) 151 Incheon Tower (587)
6.) Abraj al Bait (577)
7.) Doha Convention Center Tower (551)
8.) Dubai Towers- Tower 4 (550)
9.) World Tradde Center One (541)

This isn't about the world's tallest anymore. Whether or not you liked the original WTC, I think Yamasaki was right when he said he wanted to keep "the human scale" when he designed the original buildings. Above a certain height, buildings do lose their scale when you view them from the ground. I think the 1500-2000 foot mark is about perfect, and I'd be quite surprised if the United States ever has the world's tallest title again. We had it for ~60 years, let someone else have it.
