^ Oh yeah, you can see the big frame outline of the trees. It's ghastly.

Tacky can be good...this is a great example.

I never saw the Hamilton skyline from over ! Nice view! ... But Hamilton looks to only have old buildings, like to be somewhere around 80's and 90's.
Does Hamilton have some new tower projects in the dowtown?

Nothing of note has been built since the 90s, most of it is from the 70s and earlier.

Here's a closer view of the CBD:

The tree's on the Telus buildings in Calgary and Edmonton have been there since the old AGT days. Its great to see that its a tradition that isn't going to die!

(Harry) Stinson unveils plan for Connaught Tower in Hamilton
HAMILTON
A Toronto-based developer’s plan to build a 300-metre condo tower in downtown Hamilton would make it the tallest habitable building in Canada, and among the highest* in the world
http://dcnonl.com/article/id27819
(*i hate when reports claim 'highest' when they should be stating 'tallest'!)
anyways, don't hold your breath. i'm sure harry's been chased out of town, locked up or something, putting his latest vision on hold.

the trees are 24/7 -365 0n telus tower in edmonton??? holy yikees!

He's actually working on the Stinson Lofts right now, it's the former Stinson School that closed down and Harry bought it.

Can you fathom how much work it would be to put up and take down a 134-metre light display every year? Not to mention the cost?

In case there's any confusion, though, it is only actually lit up during the winter season.

As for tackiness, hey, we live in a city that is ridiculously dark in the winter; anything that brings some light and colour to our nights - not to mention a little bit of festiveness - is welcomed.

On a related subject, they finally have someone up there replaicng burned out bulbs.

The Christmas trees and candles are on the Telus tower in Calgary year round also. Personally I don't even notice the lights there during the day anymore unless I am looking real close.

come on now.
of course it can be (arduous &) time consuming work but that's like something the lazy niegbor would say in defense of the christmas lights being up year round! -or sleeping in your work clothes, make-up, etc. because you'll be back in ~10 hours! besides, where's the novelty, tradition or excitment when the winter/holiday/christmas season rolls around each year? give the people a treat!
cheap & lazy i say. -but mostly tacky.

and if they are so unfeasible or 'high maintenance', better to not have them at all -or every once in a while -imo.

Good for him. Eventually he'll manage to get somethin' built. Well, technically, One King West was completed before his financially drained partners gave him the heave ho.

We're already pretty lucky that the owners and managers of Telus Plaza light these things up every year on their own dime - they certainly don't have to keep doing it year after year, it's their building and their electricity bills, not ours and not yours. To ask them to take it down and put it up again at a further not-insignificant expense to themselves would be idiotic, and your "unfeasible" comment is pretty ironic, given that what is even more unfeasible is the effort and expense required of them to do what you personally want for no reason other than because it's what you want.

As noted, though, they are only noticeable when they're off if you're right up close to the building, and even then you can only make out what it is by already knowing what it is. When you own your own office tower, you can put up and take down the Christmas lights any way you see fit.

I see you've been hanging around with Bigtime lately.

Anyways, the whole it's their building, their money doesn't fly with me. Not the same but, just ask one of my neighbours who suddenly got a work order slapped on their house to remove chirstmas decorations and other things the inspector found all thanks to moi. (shhh! don't tell him.)

A fate worse than death ... having a work order on your house in the City of Toronto. LMAO, They made him paint his house because of a few chips and cracks!
