New (chain) Restaurants in Winnipeg - Page 3

Just to keep it all straight, and for virtually no constructive purpose...

Winnipeg Earl's locations:
Earls Winnipeg Polo Park
Earls Winnipeg Main Street
Earls Winnipeg Pembina
Earls Winnipeg St. Vital

Winnipeg Moxies' locations:
Moxies Kenaston
Moxies MTS Centre
Moxies Polo Park
Moxies Regent
Moxies St. Vital

^ at one point, Earl's Main Street was the highest grossing restaurant Earls in Canada (still might be, although I am not sure). The others aren't far behind.

I also imagine that the two Joey's will have surpassed any Moxies in the city in terms of business and popularity at this point. It's a better restaurant/lounge in pretty much every category - especially the all important eye candy one.

funy how people say downtown is dead if it was we would not have such a popular earls at that location

there's an Original Joe's opening at Grant+Kenaston. its an Alberta chain... nothing special, but alright.

East Side Mario's is one of the worst restaurants I've ever eaten at. (was at the Toronto Eaton Centre one a few years ago). Bland city.

which goes for most chain resto's.

I remember a couple years ago on Late Nite with Craig Ferguson, he was interviewing an actress (can't remember her name).. and asked her what she as up to and she mentioned how she was about to head off to Winnipeg to begin filming some movie.

Craig smiled, tells her he's been there before and she should definatley to goto this great restaurant near the airport called Earls. Great atmosphere and food he said. I assumed he was referring to the Polo Park location. The funny thing is he talked about it like it was a one of a kind place and didn't realize it was a chain. With that said the Polo Park location is my favorite Earls as well.

Anna Paquin and they were talking about the one on Main, not Polo Park. Paquin says it was near her hotel and most performers stay downtown (at the Fairmont). Robin Williams also frequented it when he was in town.

When Earl's Main opened in the mid 90's it was just about the only "trendy" downtown lounge/restaurant. It immediately took an absolute monopoly on the after work and weekends lounge and drinks crowd. License to print money.

I am shocked it took so long for other chains to realize, but now there is a Moxies, Boston Pizza and Hy's opened up a new place at P&M. The Keg also completed a recent reno. I think there is still room for another mid-range restaurant of this ilk to open up downtown. It would be nice if it was in a prominent location on Portage.

I'd just like to add, I freaking love Earls. It's definitely in the top 3 of highest grossing restaurants in S'toon aswell.

Also, Anna Paquin is so hot, especially in True Blood.

I agree, but lets not forget the Forks and how popular it is with the downtown crowd, especially during the patio season.

I don't remember when that Keg opened across from the Hotel FG, but it has been there for a while.

i didn't know earls or moxies were outside of BC thats why I asked - I think both are BC based?

how far does white spot go? they have some in alberta is that as far east as they go?

I really don't know about this. It's crossed my mind many times, but with the Pembina and St. Vital locations already a stone's throw away, building a third that close might be overkill. They would have 3 locations within a ten minute drive on what is essentially the same road (bishop/kenaston). And the further north they build on kenaston, the closer the polo park location is. So who knows.

Earls and Moxies have locations across Canada, a few in the States also (Earls, anyway). Moxies is Calgary based. White Spot is BC and Alberta only.

Earls in vancouver is like every other corner it seems - they have one in yaletown which is not that far like a 10 minute walk to the one just near burrard and they want in the middle on granville apparently

Joeys is owned by Earls right? they are are quite good

Earl's and White Spot are both based in Vancouver. White Spot is mostly in BC with a few resto's in AB. Earls's is in many provinces. Moxie's is from AB.

Other BC based chains that operate in other provinces include: Milestone's

, Joey's Restaurants

, Ricky's , Fatburger Canada

, Hy's Steakhouse

, Cactus Club, Nando's Chicken, The Keg

, Boston Pizza, Ric's Grill

& Red Robin

.

I think some of these are already in Winnipeg. Red Robin (great burgers & casual dining - good family place), Fatburger (2.5 to 24 oz. burgers!) and Nando's (peri-peri!) would all be good chain additions

I guess Milestones would be as well - it's a slightly upscale Moxie's with generally better food. Some may even like White Spot.
