Can't go under. They (the band) own the land and the minerals, unlike most property that is split title. You would still need an agreement, and would need land for service shafts.

I was just going to ask that, thanks for clarifying. I thought the reserve agreements included subsurface rights (unlike the rest of us suckers) but was never totally sure.

They definitely own all rights to the land. That's why some bands in the province have a ton of money--oil/gas royalties, etc.

I drove through Stoney trail at Crowchild today - that is one extensive construction site.

What is the estimated completion date for this monster ?

No, it would still be covered by the ERCB, or maybe the NEB, as would first capture rights and all that. It wouldn't be the wild west or anything. Even if rules didn't apply for some reason, you could still use provincial rules for pipelines to impose some order, and there would be some basic duty of care under the law.

They're starting to work on the pier for the SB to EB ramp at Crowchild, the auger and a crane are in the median now. And they're also doing all the electrical work for the street lights on the EB to SB ramp, most of the bases for the light standards are installed now.

Not soon enough, as Freeweed is aluding to. Construction started in 2005 and the final configuration will open in 2011. Some portions may open earlier than that though depending on the configuration.

Or if you want to put it another way, given the track record to date of this project, it will open just in time to either:

A) coincide with the start of construction of the Nose Hill Drive interchange
B) coincide with the start of consturction of the Tuscany/Scenic Acres pedestrioan bridge
C) all of the above

After all we can't have smooth flowing traffic in this area. That just won't do after 6 years of construction. People won't know how to handle it.

Thanks for the humorous responses to my Stoney-Crowchild question. I knew it seems like it's been U/C in that area for the better part of a decade . . . and I guess it will have been when all is finally said and done.

lubicon has a great stat on this; from what I recall Crowchild has been under continuous construction for something like 11 or 12 years now (including the overpasses required for Dalhousie station and continuing westward).

And if they start work on fixing the stretch from about 17 Ave. S.W. to 24 Ave. NW before the above is completed you could probably add another 3 to 5 years on to that.

Yup.

I moved here in 1997. Since then they have done:

1. bridge reconstruction over University Drive
2. LRT extension & associated overpasses from Brentwood to Dalhousie
3. LRT extension and associated overpasses from Dalhousie to Crowfoot station
4. currently working on LRT extension to Tuscany / RRRO
4. concurrently working on Crowchild / Stoney overpass
5. construction at Crowchild & 12 Mile Coulee Road - looks to be wrapping up soon.

1997 to 2009 is 12 years - and counting.

Pedestrian bridge lane fuckery has been extended yet again (surprise!) this time to December 6th. We'll see how realistic that is.

With yesterday's snow (it was very bad in the NW) combined with that bottleneck, Stoney was a virtual parking lot for kilometers.

I wish I could see an overhead picture of the area the proposed stoney trail ring road will cover
