An old postcard from around 1966. As seen from the old Children's Hospital.

thats a great pic! i love the old derrick used, just shows how much more labour intensive it was before tower cranes. sort of off topic here but i wonder what happened to all the old pics they had in the calgary tower and whos bright idea it was to remove them?

My mom has skyline photos from around the same time Petro Canada was being built (near completion). I'll have to see if she can scan them for me.

Notice the Dominion Bridge sign, which was the company located where Torode's Ramsay Exchange project is planned for.

A few old shots of Calgary's skyline. Taken by me, and recently scanned.

Yup that is the old Slumpit. I'm going to guess those photos are from around 1987? BTW very nice older photos Surreal!

So these must've been taken in what, late 1984/early 1985?

^You're too far west. It's not from SAIT.

Yeah I realize that now. That would explain my observation about whats missing. However, judging by the other pictures, I don't think I'm wrong in the timeline.

You're not too far west to be at SAIT; you're too far east! It was taken from somewhere on Crescent Rd east of 7A St. NW. It might also have been taken from the path up the side of the cliff below Crescent Rd, but my guess is that it was actually taken from Crescent Rd.

The area you're looking at is where the street grid changes in Sunnyside from the regular cardinal grid east of 5A St to the ~45 deg grid west to 9A St.

The 3-storey building you see at the right edge of the picture is at the intersection of 5A St NW with 7 Ave NW (to the east) and 2 Ave NW (hidden behind the 3-storey building). Its triangular parking lot on 5A is entirely in its shadow. On the near side of that building is the largish park on 3 Ave NW.

Virtually in the middle of the picture is what is now the turnaround for the #420 (iirc) at 5 St and 7 Ave.
