Exclamation Only seven minutes?

Seven minutes per train. That's pretty infrequent for the Airport on Canada Line. Every five mn would be my tolerance level.

The only answer seems to buy more trains and have more frequent service.

At most hours, that train is pretty dead even with seven minutes. Anything more is simply not justified from a cost or ridership perspective.

If it was up to me I'd knock down the frequency of the Airport spur to 10.5 minutes and do 3.5/7 on the Richmond spur. But when the Olympics come, 7 minutes will be pretty packed.

Your tolerance level seems a little extreme. Even 10 or 10.5 minutes per train is pretty good when the frequency is RELIABLE. The average wait is several minutes. It is much better than some of the busiest bus routes in Vancouver Proper advertised for 6 minutes peak but you often have to wait for 15-20 minutes.

7-minutes is about right considering the size of the train and the demand. It should be sufficient, though there might be a few occasions where a few 747's arrive at the same time.

7-minutes is pretty good for airport rail service.

7 minutes is beyond decent for airport rail. Trofirhen, I like to remind you that RER B in Paris from Charles de Gaulle runs every 10-15 minutes. BART from San Francisco Airport also has the same frequency.

I was in Rome this fall and the trains (granted they were commuter style) were every 30 mins. And the cost was 11 Euros one way. So, I think we have it pretty good.

And again I ask: how many trains are currently in service? If they are still on their "initial service plan", they are only using 14 of the 20 trains. Switching to the "regular" service plan would immediately bring another four trains online AT NO ADDITIONAL CAPITAL COST.

Can anyone confirm how many trains are currently in service?

So: if we assume 14 trains in service split 7 to YVR, 7 to Brighouse, then we bring four more into service and switch just ONE train from YVR service to Richmond service, we have...

12 trains to Richmond
6 trains to YVR
No additional capital cost
very marginal service reduction to the airport

Problem solved. No wonder I'll never be on the Translink board.

Of course this is assuming there are currently 14 trains in peak period service.

London Heathrow
Piccadilly Line leaves every 4 to 8 minutes depending on the time of day.
Heathrow Express leaves every 15 minutes non-stop to Paddington Station
Heathrow Connect leaves every 30 minutes making all stops to Paddington Station

Chicago Blue Line serves O'Hare airport every 10 minutes in the daytime, every 15 minutes in the evening until 1:30am, then every 30 minutes until 3:00am then every 15 minutes until the morning peak.

Manchester Airport - trains depart every 10 minutes for Manchester Piccadilly Station; all trains continue beyond to other parts of the UK.

So 7 minutes is in there. Not the best, but certainly not that bad.

The good thing about trains to the airport is that they are less full, and great if you are traveling between any stations between Bridgeport and Waterfront.

I've even noticed a lot of people catching onto "the trick". If you are on the mainline going to Richmond Spur, what you do is get on the first train that arrives that has room. If it is a YVR train, you ride it to Bridgeport and get off there. Then catch the Brighouse train behind it.

See, You are going to have to wait anyway, but at Bridgeport the train actually has FEWER people on it, even Richmond bound ones. Every train always has quite a few people that get off before or at Bridgeport, so the trains actually have room at Bridgeport. I've noticed a lot of people doing this, getting off a YVR train and getting on Brighouse train. They always have more room at Bridgeport than they do at VCC.
i was surprised to see some people waiting for a richmond brighouse station when that wasn't their destination -the other day - I was at the station (VCC) and a YVR - Airport train came along - i wanted to go to olympic village so I got on a girl who was at the platform the same time as me never did but waited for the next train - I than saw her in a store on cambie - I didn't understand but maybe she thought the trains actually went to different places? lol I don't know why one would wait it wasn't like the train that came was busy - maybe its programmed in their minds for some weird reason that it doesn't go to their destination?

Any time I have been at YVR there has been so many people with luggage waiting to board, the seats are quickly taken. The frequency now is about right, though for the Olympics I think we will need more. Especially if they expect so many more thousands of people and 300 more flights, and with most taxis taken, and roads closed all over the place...

maybe we go at different times - the only times i have been there 3-4 pm ish its been dead

the airport is generally dead that time though - it seems the most flights arrive in the morning or the evening

anyway its not bad - I waited for what felt forever in London to get on the piccadily line

I can handle the wait, but I do like to sit I was so happy the last time I actually got a seat... to the airport!! Out of interest, I looked at the schedule for the trains out of Narita Airport to Shinagawa Station (the main transfer point to Haneda Airport, and other train stations). The frequency blows my mind, I have never actually taken the NEX before.

16:02
16:03
16:06
16:08
16:09

So, one train leaving approximately every 90 seconds. One of the trains runs slightly slower, though... by about 2 minutes.

Looking forward to riding the Canada Line from YVR to Waterfront tomorrow afternoon for the first time. And then riding the SeaBus across to the N. Shore which I always love.

Us Calgarians need to start bugging SOMEONE to put the LRT to the airport. I would love to be able to go from my nearest station (which doesn't exist yet... but will be the new Ernest Manning Highschool station) to the airport, with a transfer or two inbetween.

I've given up explaining to people that every C-Line train stops at every station in Vancouver and Bridgeport station in Richmond. If they can't read a map & see for themselves, so be it.

I stopped giving a similar explanation (that E-Line and M-Line trains go to the same stations between Waterfront and Columbia) when I was quite rudely told "I don't want to go to Surrey - I want Metrotown". If they can't look at the map & see both coloured routes (blue and yellow) take them to their stop, what can you do?

I'll likely get their seat while they wait for the 'right' train to show up.

Meaning, 7 minutes is average-decent.
