Out of interest, where would you consider a better location? Does the museum really "languish", and if so, is that a result of it's location, or other factors?

That building and location are prime for Vancouver. I have no idea what the poster is referring to.

3% of the collection? Really? Do we really want to see the other 97% if that's the case, lets be honest here.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, but this pdf has lots of information about the proposed office and retail development at 538 W. Broadway (at Cambie) across from Crossroads.

Nice, thanks!

Shoppers Drug Mart on the ground floor right across the street from London Drugs!

Also looks like the second floor retail space (16,000 sq ft) is geared to one tenant with escalator access from the street.

^Correct.

As much as I'm happy for the increased density and development of the site, it still kinda hurts to lose small restaurants like those for... a shoppers.

btw thanks for the link draconian

I know there are probably other examples, but that just seems silly. Are they really going to have another Shoppers Drug that close to the brand new one that opened where Capers used to be? It's 3 blocks away . . . maybe (it may only be 2 blocks).

I like Shopper's Drugs, but that's like Starbucks spacing .

Not a great loss. That new building looks great. Wonder what will happen with the Shoppers between Willow & Laurel.

Maybe all these shops will move into the vacated space.

That Willow- Laurel location would be the primary VGH location and I doubt it would be closed.
Maybe the Broadway Cambie location will become the 24 hour location and the other will scale back (depends if the Laurel location gets a lot of late night traffic from VGH.

Shoppers is kicking London Drugs' behind all over Metro Vancouver - Broadway, downtown, North Shore, etc. It's embarrassing.

I used to be a LD devotee, but no more. The stores are antiquated, the layouts are confusing, the pharmacies are crowded with long line-ups. Never mind the casher line-ups.

Unless I'm buying a computer accessory like a printer, I only shop at Shoppers.

Apparently Shoppers will be opening in a brand new building on the parking lot site at NE corner of 13th and Granville.

(guessing this should be moved to the retail thread)

Glad I could be of help.
It's pretty crazy to see Shoppers and London Drugs battling it out right across from each other, testing our allegiances for pharmacy and personal care stores.
I'm a big fan of the development; it looks good and the Cambie/Broadway intersection needs much more density!!

They replaced the Capers on Cambie and 16th with Shoppers Drugs Mart. I was pretty pissed when this happened, as I have to walk down to the other place at Cambie and Broadway. I don't think I've stepped foot more than twice in Shoppers, as I go to London Drugs since I have to walk down to buy food anyways.

Seems like a bit of misplaced anger, Zivan.

Shouldn't you actually be mad at Capers for moving, instead of Shoppers for moving into the space? Or would it be better to have an empty storefront?

It's not like it was a hostile takeover of the location .

This is completely false. The methodology may have been questionable but you are completely misrepresenting it. From the report linked at BTA Works:

Quote:
Using an indicative sample, this study looked at 2,387 condominium units spread throughout 13 buildings, representing slightly under 10% of the existing condominium stock in Downtown Vancouver (See Figure Two). The units in this study were exclusively in high density towers and do not include units in low to midrise buildings and townhomes.
I don't count the RETalks forum as very authoritative...
