The same thing happened during phase 2, though it was also not postponed. It came online about 6 hours later.

Tickets.com is just amazingly inept. They need to stick to small time university basketball events.
Vanoc should have used the 'lottery' approach for all phases of ticket sale, no server would crash and it is much fairer.

This is crap. I was in a seminar this morning and had my Mac tethered to my iPhone and was ready to go. Wasted 2 hours and killed my battery. And it is expected next that Whistler and/or Baker will open next weekend. I can't exactly buy tickets while I'm skiing now can I Vanoc?!?! Do it earlier!

Time yourself so that you're going up the lift right at 10, and then buy your tickets.. hehe.

I had actually thought it was a lottery request again until I read that it was first come first serve on the site this morning at 9:30am. Wasted an hour of my life and I got sooo close.

I love how people don't read all of a news article before commenting, the boards are filled with people claiming foul and talking about how big a disasters the actual games will be because of this. It's like they don't have brains to moderate extreme reactions to every little thing in the universe.

I didn't buy any tickets, but I was able to log on and select events, I had some tickets selected to see if it would allow me to and it did, it even began the countdown like in the phase 2 sales. I did not purchase though so perhaps the transaction wouldn't have been processed at checkout, probably should've tried but I didn't want to purchase tickets I didn't want hence keeping someone else from getting them. It was weird though I didn't get any of the problems you guys did, between 10:05 and 10:20 I was able to log in on mutliple windows.

I tried to access the site, let alone log-in, for nearly two hours this morning. Very frustrated by the whole affair. It should have been a lottery.

Anyway, I am glad they are doing a do-over next Saturday and hopefully the fail will have been worked out of Tickets.com's system.

For VANOC this must be a nice problem to have, but for those of us wanting to have one last shot at tickets it was very annoying.

The following reported by Edmonton Sun http://www.edmontonsun.com/sports/2009/11/07/11671311-24hvan.html summed up how a lot of people feel about the this 'epic fail' system.

Quote:
"You'd think VANOC would have the online ticketing system fixed by now. Instead, even in phase 3, the system is crashing endlessly," said a Tweet by Drafted_Boy.

Added bah33: "Good riddance to VANOC and your stupid ticketing site."
I didn't know Vanoc uses an external provider for the ticketing process, bad decision. For this type of high transaction event, I doubt even Tickemaster can handle the web traffice volume.

Quote:
Tickets.com is a California-based Major League Baseball subsidiary that beat Ticketmaster for the contract in 2007. Isolated problems were reported when tickets went on sale through a lottery in November 2008 and on first-come, first-serve in June 2009.
There is a high possibility some technical issue will still occur on Nov. 14. I wouldn't be able to spend time on that day for this, so one less competition for others and good luck.

Now i remember why Tickets.com didn't have problems when it did this for previous Olympic hosts, they were all LOTTERY!

Its my understanding that there will be tickets available day-of to events that likely come out of un-used "Olympic Family" seats.

So for Whistler, if one books a private vehicle up (i.e. not the Olympic Bus System) to Whistler, like through www.ridebooker.com, there's a pretty good chance they could enjoy a sporting event, or at the very least the 'Olympic Spirit'.

Wonder if we'll see any official statement from VANOC as we get closer to the Games re: Olympic Family seats and how they plan to limit the empty seats that have plagued the Games in recent history?

Don't give away all the secrets .

I'm just kidding. I had just thought it was quite the find to discover ridebooker a couple of weeks back. It seems like a great alternative to the messiness of having to drive (and park) or use crushing skytrains to head out of the city only to catch a packed Olympic Network bus that heads directly to the sporting event. And then having to make the return odyssey, complete with driving or schleping yourself back when the bus drops you back off at the terminal.

The price is a bit more, but it struck me as a more convenient alternative in many ways. We've even considered booking a one-day trip just to "hang" in the Whistler village for a day. I think it would be a great atmosphere to soak up during the games. And given the exorbitant prices to do things like enclosing yourself in the Canada Hockey House, it seems like a deal that would yield a more authentic experience of the Games.

I'm sure there will be many things to see and do in Vancouver itself, but we find ourselves looking forward to our little Whistler day adventure. I've never actually gone to Whistler without driving so it will be nice to be able to look around a bit more enroute.

Everybody ready for tomorrow? I wonder what the odds are that the same thing happens.

I'm taking bets!

I just want 4 tickets. Is that so much to ask. Yes, they happen to be for the hottest events... but still.

I really just want opening ceremonies, i'll take gold hockey if I can get it. I would also like Vancouver victory ceremonies tickets but I doubt they will be as hard to get. I don't care so much about seeing the sport events since I am a volunteer with photo services at Cypress so I will be front row for many snowboard and free style ski events!

So, supposedly Purolator will be delivering the tickets soon. Just bloody brilliant. I hate Purolator! They always lie and say they "attempted" to deliver it, when they never actually do, no notice on the door or anything... but then you get a call from their main office a good 30 minutes away saying they have a package for you to come pick up. And no, we aren't going to attempt to deliver it "again". This is one instance where Canada Post would be so much better! This has happened every time someone has forced Purolator upon me, while living in four different places.

Me too. I friggin hate Purolator. They only put their depots at the airports usually.. amusingly enough though, Purolator is actually owned by Canada Post. It's their courier divison.
