That comes from editing.

No, just that I've edited some pictures that turned out this way, but they weren't HDR.

^^ Yes. My RAW editor has a slider for increasing shadow detail, and if you use it too heavy handed you get 'glow' or haloing such as in that pic. Sometimes the effect is good and sometimes not.

I think the halo effect always look bad. You don't need to push the tone mapping so far, the objective of the hdr is to get clearer pictures, better colors and contrast, not to get those sci-fi effects. The bad HDR editing technique spoiled that Toronto pic above IMO. People tend to push the HDR editing way too far. And by the way you can't do real HDR with RAW, I tried and the effect has never been the same. Sure you can get something that looks like HDR but it's not exactly HDR.

If you limit this to only Canada's 10 largest cities, you would be leaving out a few quite spectacular skylines......eg: Halifax

Haha, I thought about this before. Except not just skylines, but urban photography in general. Or better yet, all things Canadian, including cities, parks, mountains, etc.

Actually, I'm sure we've all pondered the idea at some point or another, considering the talent pool on SSP.
