Nope, the Rings are on the barge, which is secured to 3 pilings.
The Rings put on a "light show" by changing colours, flashing and stuff.

I will be looking at them for months. Will let everyone know if the anti-olympic coalition does a pre-emptive strike against the barge and the friendly fire casualty count resulting from any such assault.

Thanks for the photo Delirium. I completely agree with you about the daycare centre. Walter Francl is one of our best architects. He and his firm also did the Trout Lake Olympic Ice Rink and Sea Island Centre Station.

Also, Shangri-La looks awfully dapper in that aerial photo. It stands out in the sea of white towers.

the news report said the rings will be moored near brockton point - where they are now and will be moved every night closer to the convention centre for a nightly light show and than moved back after it is over

everytime Canada wins a gold medal there will also be a special light show using these rings and the ones at the ones at the airport

I didn’t know... that’s great.
Sounds like the Thurlow plaza will be the nightly party spot during the games then.

Thanks.

Anyone know what's going in? Are those girders strong enough for a roof deck (if a restaurant?)

wow no wonder they cleared the plaza

its the future home of the liquor store - it will be moving from its current location to this newly created space - since the parking garage is due to be replaced

Anyone catch the front page headline/article on two towers proposed for the West End? One building is completely rental - what are the residents association griping about? It will change the character of the neighbourhood? Give me a break. Anything is an improvement from crappy 1970's architecture - let's start bulldozing already...

There are NIMBYs everywhere. The West End has tons of crappy places to live.

Some West End residents are outraged over a proposed 22-storey residential tower in what is already Canada’s densest neighborhood.

"Densest" in more ways than one.

I tend to agree - but what about that Maxines Hideaway building - i quite like it, tons of character. Is that going as well?

Have you ever actually seen St. John's in person? A rather interesting piece of ecclesiastical architecture from the Seventies, which is a sub-type rather lacking in Vancouver and quite unexpected in the West End. I'd much rather see that preserved than yet another bland glass tower.
