well done ILYR!

Damn it Anaheim/Tampa Bay, you win a Stanley Cup and STILL can't get people to pack your venue....LA, Colorado and Columbus should be on a rebound.

The hopeless: Nashville, Tampa Bay and Atlanta. The rest will fluctuate depending on their team and arena improvements IMO

There no limits to supply and demand unless there is competition locally (which there is nothing close to NHL)
It really is about average revenue per game. I would like to see the stats for that? A much different story I am sure...

All very interesting .. but does your stats include the thousands for free tickets distributed by a number of US teams?? Does it take into account of promotional tciket sales such as $25 for lower bowl and $15 dollar upper bowl (as in Atlanta)?? Really these stats are the most meaningless numbers I have seen since some yahoo from the Toronto media predicted the Leafs would make the playoffs this season. Free seat distibution is beyond common ... if you are among the few who are willing to accept them in various markets in this league. I recently watched a Atlanta Thashers game on TV and the arena had about 1/3 of its seats filled on the lower bowl. Meaningless that the reported attendance was nearly 15000.. yeah right.

The only numbers that mean anything is revenue per game. It has been shown that the MTS Centre could generate 1.1 million per game with the current arena seating. Putting it within the top third in the league.

Gettin back to NHL reality .. the League is about to take over ownership of the Coyotes. If they can't find a local owner they will be forced to relocate them.

Can anyone guess where to??

... and the richest guy in Canada waiting in the wings to move a team to River City.

This means something then...

I'm expecting that this would only be "all talk" and no walk.

Let's hope that Bettman would be a bit more faithful this time.

Bill Daly's Statement regarding the Phoenix Coyotes
Monday, 10.26.2009 / 8:43 PM / News
NHL.com
Bill Daly, deputy commissioner of the National Hockey League, today released the following statement:

"In Phoenix today, a tentative agreement was reached among the parties to amend the NHL's offer to purchase the Coyotes franchise out of bankruptcy, and a proposed order, mutually agreed to by the parties, will be filed with the Court seeking approval of the NHL's amended bid.

"If there is no objection from the parties involved, and subject to any potential objections and a hearing if necessary, the parties hope to close the sale of the Club to the NHL by Monday, Nov. 2.

"It remains the NHL's intention upon taking control of the Club to stabilize the Club's operations and, as quickly as possible, to re-sell the Club to a new owner who is committed to operating the Club in the Glendale/Phoenix market."

I just thought it was a cool plot of attendance versus city latitude.

5855 ... bye bye Phoenix.

After 7 games the Coyotes average 9407 (Includes the first game sell-out). The Moose do better than that, even on a Monday night. And not just attendance, but in total revenue.

After an average of 7 home games per team there are 6 teams in the NHL that have an average attendance less than the MTS Center and 6 more teams having less than 16000 per game (includes Anaheim at 15044). This of course does not take into "actual" seats sold and ticket prices (must keep newflyer happy).

Numbers taken from http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance.

DAMN!!!!!!

(edit)
Check out AHL League Attendance. If you notice from the dropdown list for dates, Hersey has the regular season, whereas Manitoba has the playoffs for highest average attendance.

oh man.... 5,855 people, probably only 4,000 showed up and who knows how many actually paid (even that doesn't mean much when tickets are among the cheapest in the league)

Start packing up Phoenix, you're gonna be re-locating soon!

A good marketing ploy would be to unretire the Concorde Jet and have it do a fly by over Winnipeg and land with all the players and coaches.

What better way to celebrate then have the fastest jet in the world deliver the team!

For those who don't know what the Concorde is:

Oh that would be very cool.

Although we would have to deal with the incredible noise of the sonic boom overhead.

Does it "boom" when landing?

Of course it only creates a sonic boom when it breaks the sound barrier (flying faster than the speed of sound)... which it would not be even close to as it approached its landing.

Having some form of flash when the team comes back to Winnipeg would be an amazing marketing move.

How about a figher jet escort of the passenger jet as it arrived back in Winnipeg. (FYI: those F18's can also break the sound barrier as well)

Yeah, but of course the NHL is going to say it is looking to keep the team in Pheonix as a means not to turn off any remaining fans, while the relocation sale details are worked out.

Can anyone imagine:

For Sale: NHL team .. located in a non hockey market.

Expected to lose 30 to 50 million per year ... although higher loses expected this year.

yeah this team is moving. Any announcement will probabily be delayed as an attempt to retain and attract fans to the remaining games this season, unless they can be relocated mid-season. Logistically I highly doubt this is what the NHL wants, but since they now own the team they will be picking up the massive loses this year while they hold onto this franchise.

What if the NHL decides to move the team to Winnipeg, in a bid to stave off the humongous losses. Would Winnipeggers embrace it?

I don't think so. The team might do better than in Phoenix but I would not expect big crowds. I don't think Winnipeggers will want to invest much emotionally if the team were to be moved if and when a new owner shows up.
