It's in the old Video N' Games location next to Schooners Pub and Poco Loco Pizza. I think it's called Treasure of Saigon.

Where is the four storey office building going to be, and what is it for?

Part of the underground parking structure will be built under 33rd Street.

This rendering shows the building.

There are more renderings in the documents here:

I love how that drawing leaves out all the roads that go around that station site, and has all the developable land as park. Good thing the reasonably high density for the site is already approved!

I have yet to go there, but my friends say it's awesome at 3am when you've been ingesting things.

I really want to know if anything's going into the defunct dollar store behind the 7-Eleven. (That place sucked)

Wasn't the City giving up the remaining parcels of land to the design/build contractor as part of the LRT deal? Does this mean SNC Lavalin will be taking ownership rights to the excess land around the route?

Man I find it frustrating we are having this debate about downtown stations and currently spending millions on rebuilding the 7th Ave. stations. Bite the bullet and put the thing underground downtown already.

Sorry, this should probably be in the Calgary Transit thread - but there you go.

^ Building the Stephen's Avenue Subway still leaves the west line on the surface, where it will run for a least 30 years, likely forever.

Well get it underground downtown too.
I still don't understand why both lines couldn't share the 8th Ave subway.

It's not as much about traffic signals and automobile crossings, but about the switches at either end of the 7th avenue mall and the capacity of station load times and headways. Sharing an underground subway won't be much of an improvement over sharing an above ground transit corridor. Two separate tunnels would be needed for that to happen.

On another note, this brings up the issue of whether 7th avenue would be able to accommodate the NCLRT along with the NELRT and WLRT as per the Nose Creek alignment. But I guess that belongs in the NCLRT discussion.

maybe we could buy the tbm used for this new subway when barcelona is done with it. a double stack underground lrt seems like a logical choice in calgary. if you're going to build a tunnel, make it the right one.

Barcelona's Line 9 and 10 are ridiculous. It will be the longest, deepest metro line in Europe. Something like 50 km long and 80 metres deep at parts. It is ridiculous.

1. Higher cost as a Crowchild Trail, 33rd Street, or 37th Street alignments to get there would have much higher costs due to massive property acquisition and/or tunnelling.

2. After getting to MRU, the line would have been difficult to expand since it runs into one of: Glenmore Reservoir, Tsuu T'ina Nation, or both

3. MRU is effectively closed for a 1/3rd of the year, and there are few other significant ridership sources along that route that would pick up the slack.

4. MRU is already decently served by transit via buses, and other options of the LRT routing would be able to improve service. This will be the case with a new BRT route from Westbrook Station starting once the chosen WLRT alignment opens.

For the record, I used to attend MRC and am actually an advocate for improving transit service to the school, and even getting the LRT there. However, the chosen WLRT route had the better relative benefits, and that is why it is what is being built.

If you are interested, here is the routing benefit study that was presented to council:

http://www.westlrt.ca/files/West%20LRT%20Presentation%20to%20Council.pdf

Specifically, pages 11 - 18.

And on top of that, if anyone else out there lives west of Sarcee trail up on the hill they know how crucial another link down will be. First day of snow every year is a complete gong-show on bow and 17th haha

It could save a couple of million in accident costs. Have to say that I never considered that.
