Alternately, for us to continue on through Jasper and to Vancouver (to check out their Skytrain system, which he's recently become VERY interested in) would take a day and a half, include a train ride through the mountains, and cost us $642.

I doubt I could get 2 return plane tickets to Vancouver for that... so maybe there's a slice of market share the trains can claim.... too bad for the 11pm departure time.... but isn't that an improvement from the 2:30am time previously?

I'd say it's an improvement and maybe with some advertising more people will consider taking the train. With some increased ridership maybe times will be adjusted to be a bit more reasonable.

Interesting, although I wonder why they weren't mandated to use greystone as exterior cladding? Perhaps in that part of the campus it's not important... the existing Williams Building is also mostly brick.

Good news for Nutana alcoholics. They Hose and Hydrant is building a retail off sale (as well as a roof deck on top) in the back alley. No more hikes to the Colonial upon running dry at 1:00 am.

This side of the project faces Aird St, which will be extended east of Cumberland. So, here 'we' are south of the project, looking north. Cumberland is out of view to the left, Griffiths Stadium to the upper right. There will also be an additional smaller building for more residences nearer to Cumberland that mimics the Williams building. On Campus News will have a bird's eye rendering posted Friday.

I was listening to Gormley... They were talking about griffiths stadium... with reference to Gordie Howe Bowl and all the money they are supposedly pumping into Gordie Howe. I'd like to see Griffiths expanded to 15,000 seats comfortably (I have to admit everytime I have been to a Huskies game the seating has been terrible)while also keeping with the grey brick theme of the University. So a concrete built structure with bench seating. As opposed to an aluminum frame seating on one side and a concrete monstrosity on the othr side. And use this Stadium as the facilty in the City for football. Also include on top expanded press boxes on both sides. So to put it bluntly, I'd rather see griffiths expanded and made better than have two below average football stadiums. Any money spent on Howe Bowl may be well intended, but I think that we should focus on one facilty and make it work for the whole city.

Maybe this way we could host a Rider preseason game, or more easily host events like the Vanier cup. Not to mention the potential for University games, and other sports events or outdoor concerts that could be utilized at such a facility.

I'm very impressed with the architecture of these residences! Perhaps a unique situation will happen; people will begin to realize and see the potential of density and maybe a demand increase will occur. We can only hope! *crosses fingers*

All well and good, but Griffiths is no longer suited for track and field after installing artificial turf. This is being added to Howe Bowl, At least Saskatoon will have one track facility!

It's deal or no deal for Michael Lobsinger.

The President and C-E-O of Lake Placid Developments has until 5 O'clock Friday afternoon to pay the City of Saskatoon approximately 5 million (m) dollars for the River Land.

Murray Totland, Saskatoon's City Manager, said if he doesn't make it on time, the agreement is null and void.

Totland explained where they go from there if that does happen.

"Administratively we'll start that process over. But city council will have to make a decision on whether or not that want to take it back out for proposal call, would like to sell, or do whatever they wish to do."

Totland said they're hopeful Lobsinger will come through with the money.

This is a purely hypothetical question, but if the Lake Placid deal does fall through, do you think it would have had a greater impact on the Civic elections if they had happened 2 days after the deadline, rather than the other way around? I think there's going to be some serious outrage if the development of this land falls through once again. I know I'll be upset because I know how long it will take to re-plan a development, let alone actually finish construction, in this city. So here's hoping that Lake Placid somehow pulls it out today!

It's done guys, they'll be no way they're gonna pay the city in the next 2 hours and apparently the sales trailer is emptied out and locked up. That's too bad, for 2 years I was waiting to see a bulldozer or anything there. I wouldn't be suprised if this bankrupts Lake Placid.

All Quiet on the River (Landing) Front
No word on whether payment deadline will be met

The clock is ticking on Lake Placid Developments.

A 5:00 deadline looms for the developer to pay the city of Sasktoon $4.5 million. Land has been set aside for Lake Placid to build an ambitious retail, hotel and condominium complex.

In August, City Council set a two-tiered deadline for Lake Placid.

The Developer met the first due date - paying over $200,000 in interest owed. The full $4.5 million is to be paid by the time city offices close Friday, or Lake Placid loses the land.

There's been no word from City Hall, Council, or Lake Placid. The developer's sales trailer on the site was locked and empty early Friday afternoon.

Atch was the face of the development, more so than Lobsinger.

Atch has 3 years to reinvent himself by finding a suitable alternative to the Lake Placid development, if he fails, the public backlash could be severe. The AGS could provide redemption, but even that leaves a bitter taste (no open and transparent consultation process for a major civic project).

The election turnout was a disgusting 27%!!! Arrrgghhh, and my ward representative almost lost, so damn close (Ward 4 Myles Heidt vs Sean Shaw, difference was 4% IIRC). I was really hoping for a change, maybe next time.

Developer apologizes, Mayor to speak at 5:00

It appears the Lake Placid project at River Landing is done.

Michael E. Lobsinger, the company's CEO, has issued a statement that they will not be able to meet today's 5:00 deadline.

Lobsinger sites a rough economic landscape and administrative obstacles at various levels for the delay. Lake Placid is still interested in building a condo complex at River Landing, however the City of Saskatoon has said that it is very firm in this deadline.

Mayor Don Atchison is scheduled to address the media at 5:00.
