Absolutely. That is hot. Once again, it shows how a great design can look good in a winter rendering. Our design needs to embrace winter, its part of our culture, not only as Edmontonians, but as Canadians.

So other than the snazzy overhang, when Oxford Tower (ATB Tower?) is up for a reclad, what's preventing Oxford from actually doing something interesting like this with it?

Something like the TD tower can't be all that much simpler. And since it's all just cosmetic, if it's a choice between the TD Tower Mark III and something interesting, it would be nice if they at least considered something interesting.

Completely offtopic: Remember when C2E was a site full of like-minded progressive people who were passionate about the city? I miss that.

I think the cost come in with the manufacturing and install. It looks to me like the panes of glass vary in shape, size and colour.
TD has very few one off panes and you certainly don't have a complicated pattern to follow. I think you are underestimating what it takes to facilitate the installation of that window system by a LARGE margin.

Yeah, the pro-eugenics, healthcare-uber-alles and anti-environmental conversations have really opened my eyes to a mindset that seems to be scarily prevalent in Edmonton/Alberta.

It would definitely have to be simpler than the montreal one, with probably just one horizontal split per floor to keep the current system of 8' windows and 4' spandrels or whatever it is. Even with that though, there would be room for variety.

TD has upwards of 15 different window and spandrel types. The mullions are also different depending which section of the building they're on. So yes. It would be harder. But they could coordinate 15 into a geometric pattern a decade ago, so coordinating 30 (or however many it would take...it wouldn't take very many) into a seemingly random pattern today is hardly beyond the realm.

Yeah...I'm fairly sure I'm done there. I hate to be the "I'm taking my ball and going home" type but that eugenics thread and in particular that comment from chmilz had me so mad I was shaking. It literally scares me that people in this city could hold beliefs like that. I've really got no interest in being connected to that, no matter how tenuously.

^ I'm not a member or very much a browser of the C2E thread, but it doesn't surprise me. Alberta in general always seems to have these individuals that are so good at and proud of rallying for the most ignorant or "easiest" explanation; whether it be architecture, healthcare, education, or the environment.

I browse the CBC forums regularly, and the amount of thumbs up given to completely ignorant or misinformed comments is pretty amazing - I'm sure many of the perceptions of Albertans within the rest of Canada are with merit, at times.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that there isn't some great discussion. And no, I'm not an uber liberal, anti everything that causes some sort of issue crazy person. I lean to the left, but the right has plenty of good points and ideas.

But anyways... Hoping to see some updated renderings of some of the approved buildings - The Ironwood, in particular. And also the rumored Manulife 2 and Oxford Tower.

I was thinking earlier that a great way to add variety to Edmonton's skyline would be to have another dual tower project, but something more dense and interesting. One of the new World Trade Center buildings came to mind:

Second from the left. Simple, yet very unique. Obviously it would need to be altered for cost and such. In retrospect any tower similar to those designs would, in my opinion, be a very welcome addition to Edmontons' overall skyline and core.

To be fair, this is not limited to Alberta. Read the comments on news articles relating to Eastern Canada and you'll find exactly the same pattern. Hell even here on SSP, some of the most ignorant and/or extreme right-wing comments in the Canada section come from Torontonians and Quebecers.
