You catch an interesting point here. 45th Street actually sits on a bit of a rise. If the tracks were to come to grade before reaching 45th, as the original plans called for, the trains would end up having to first come up more steeply and then travel down a slope as they headed west, immediately prior to starting to climb again to get over Sarcee Tr. I would not be suprised if the design/ build teams were pushing for the trenching change as it helps simplify the engineering of the grade (which trains are very sensitive to).

I've taken a look at proposed bus feeder routes into the WLRT stations. I like what I see for the most part. But what happens to the all the buses that they have allocated now for all of the West bus routes ( i.e. 101, 104, 301, 2 etc.) when many will not require the same number as their routes are dramatically shortened to head just to the closest stations rather than all the way downtown.

I can imagine that the new shorter routes that feed into the stations will have higher frequency than current downtown-bound routes, but there probably would be a bunch of extra buses no longer needed in the West side. Anyone have some ideas on what those extra buses will go towards?

I think some of the underground tracks will have to go ahead near the beginning - Westbrook station, the underpass under Bow Trail, 17th Ave etc. Some of those things will require a year of construction jsut to build the underpass, so they'll have to get it all done ASAP so the trackwork can start.

Bow Trail realignment will be one of the first things to get underway without a doubt in my mind. The modifications to the Crowchild bridges while not really huge of a project are required before anything else starts around there, and the new lanes pretty much have to be done at 33rd before they can start on the tunnel (which we don't know how it will be constructed, but I'll guess cut and cover)
