True, that will help the southern end of the line, but the moment the Millennium Line reaches Cambie there will be significant added load to the Canada Line at the north end.

I still wonder if a "UBC phase 1" will be fast tracked to simply extend Millennium to meet up with the Canada Line.

I mentioned doing that at the open house the other night of building the UBC line in phases and getting the M line out to the Canada Line.

And what was the response?

This is one of my pet near-term goals as well. The M-Line extension west from VCC-Clark to the Cambie Line should be completed in conjunction with the building of the Evergreen Line. The only difficulty would be that Cambie would then be the main transfer point to the 99 B-line. That might pose some logistical problems.

Even with M-Line to Broadway-City Hall, you can still run the 99 B line between Commercial-Broadway and UBC. The M Line would veer away from Broadway through the flats, making the 99 useful to get to/from the Clarke and Fraser area. As well, travelers traveling beyond Cambie can board at Broadway off the Expo line instead of transfering to M line then 99 (save them a transfer).

The point of bringing the M-line to the C-Line right away would be to offer people heading to the City Hall/VGH region a direct rapid transit ride, and to facilitate quick transfers with the Canada Line, thus reducing the load on the 99 traveling between Commercial and UBC.

Heck, the 99 still runs some buses all the way out to Boundary, even with the Millennium line right there.

^ It would also give some relief to the Expo line's busiest section and the system's busiest station. Some portion of the Millennium line passengers could choose to ride along to the Canada Line to get downtown.

I would if I was going to Yaletown.

I used to live in Burquitlam and work in Yaletown. I wish even just the Canada Line was there when I did.

But if the Evergreen line existed and went through to City Hall, I would have just taken Skytrain from Burquitlam all the way to City Hall, then C-Line from there to Yaletown.

It would be faster than the current system, and faster than even driving in no traffic (which I did sometimes because it was actually faster to drive at the time with no C-Line as transit was "difficult" in Yaletown).

It would relive a lot of transfers that currently happen at Broadway, and offer a better alternative to a lot of people who transfer to the B line only to take it as far as Cambie/VGH (one of the biggest job centers outside of downtown).

It would also be useful and fast for travel between Burnaby and Richmond. Currently taking the 99 B line only saves about 5 minutes vs going into downtown and transferring at Waterfront (and that's assuming multiple B lines don't pass you buy as full).

Expo still needs the greatest capacity. Based on the experiences of the C line forking, I don't think that would be the best idea for a future E/M line fork into PoCo. Certain locations would see poor service which would hardly be an upgrade on a bus, if at all.
You twit.

It is well known that the car capacity for each Canada Line car is 167-passengers. There is also a consensus in this forum that the third "C" car has the same capacity as the A and B cars, 167-passengers.

These numbers, as well as the other numbers, are correct.

The C-Car will not have the same capacity as the A & B cars unless it was all standing. It will be shorter than the A & B cars by a range of 5-10 metres. So yes, including the platform extension, longer trains, and more trains, the capacity between Bridgeport and Waterfront is comparable to the current SkyTrain lines. It's Richmond where the capacity is halved, and I would say the amount of people using the Richmond branch is quite a lot. If we have more trains, we could have 2/3 of the trains go to Richmond while maintaining the same frequency for the airport branch.

Hey now, I only did those numbers for this thread to be talked about maturely, not to become a fight.

20 000 phpd though does seem to be the lines max between Bridgeport and waterfront using the 501 per trainset number and frequencies of 90 sec along the trunk portion. Of course those numbers will be cut in half along the spurs, unless as said before 2 go to Richmond, 1 goes to YVR, which sounds like a good solution.

Catastrophe would be if they didn't build the line, building it not to your expected capacity no where qualifies it as such. I for one and apparently many people in Vancouver, are very thankful it was built despite it being undersized. A judicious restraint in your sentiment might bring you more supporters...

Not to mention one less transfer for Expo line to UBC folks. I'd just get off at Joyce if I was going to UBC... take the 41-Bline.

All that being said, it would be a redundant service.

I thought this was kinda funny:
Quote:
Bono thrilled the crowd with his showmanship, his still-strong voice and his shout-outs to Vancouver. “Where are we going on the SkyTrain? Millennium Line. Expo Line. Canada Line.”
I'm imagining what a U2 song about the SkyTrain would be like...

That connection appears to be a no-brainer, with all of the development in the City Hall area lately.

How long would the VCC to City Hall link be? Could it be mostly elevated until meeting the C-Line station underground?

As I look at google maps, it would be around 2km, and the natural station in between would be Kingsway & Main, so the whole thing would likely be underground. Still, if this could be done in the $500m-$600m range... make it happen!

^ Since there will be a TBM procured for the Burquitlam tunnel, it would "seem" like a no-brainer to truck the TBM over to Finning and start digging there immediately afterward. Since the province appears ready to "rescue" Evergreen line anyway, it would be a tremendous enhancement to build the connection to Canada Line as part of the same project for an extra $300-400 million... But it does cost money. :-)

Nice to see Bono at least branding the C-Line as SkyTrain.
