Yeah, but we are still in recession, it wasn't announced too long ago, they are probably still trying to figure out what their tower will even look like and where it will go.
I'm glad that they are sincerely looking at moving to Salt Lake, though.
I just hope they are a properly managed company that will stand the next financial slow down.
Anyone know of any Utah based companies looking to expanding to SLC? I bet raser tech. will increase it's presence downtown if they get their power plant going.

What is the normal height for floors in a commercial tower? 32 stories wouldn't hit 500 feet, would it? Bummer...

Great news anyway! Can't wait for the announcement...

Edit: According to emporis, COB is 30 stories (that doesn't seem right) and 420 ft, so that would be 14 feet per floor. New tower would be 448 with those specs. WF building is 26 stories and 423 feet for a floor height of 16.3 feet. New building would be 520 in this case. My guess is somewhere in between, so 485 feet or so.

I wish it were also! It would be so easy for a company to come in and dominate our skyline. They'd also get the advertising perks that come along with being a city's tallest, I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Wow! I had no idea it would be the new tallest! What a good surprise.
In other news the NSA development will cost about 1.5 billion dollars. Our states gross domestic income is about 86 billion isn't it? making this quite an investment.

Google Earth tells the elevation of your cursor relative to sea level as you move the cursor around the terrain (including onto the roofs of buildings)

It has the roof of the COB at 4,765 feet and Wells Fargo at 4,667 feet, which would mean that the roof of the COB is 98 feet higher.
I'm not sure how accurate this is, but when comparing the roof to the ground around the building, it had both building heights correct to within a few feet, so I'd imagine it's pretty close:

The Atlanta company news seems like it has a lot to be sorted out, so I'm just waiting until something real happens. I'm really looking forward to something over 600 feet.

Parking ABOVE the retail? The parking should be underground. Have we not learned anything with the old ZCMI Mall that also had parking above the retail?

I thought the city was pass this.
As for Tower 8, now I'm confuse. I still don't know where Tower 3 is. or is there even a Tower 3?

All this time I thought this tower was number 3. I counted about 20-22 stories. I really hope the final design is going to be taller then that.

I do not think any company, anywhere, EVER decided to go for more floors than they would need just to be in a position to say mine is bigger than yours.

Especially for a company that may have researched to the max but still are not sure if they are coming at all.

This kind of event takes years of discussion, which I imagine they have done.
Atlanta has every amenity that SLC has and more.

It would be really interesting to truly know what their motivation for the move is all about. I can think of no city that could handle a major corporation shift better than SLC.

I would love to see it happen, I am not really certain what the real reasons are.

To me it still seems like hearsay. Tell me where I am wrong.

Clueless and relative to nothing.

The difference between talking about NYC and SLC or any other US city is irrelevant.

It is not the height, it is about what realistically serves the purpose.

They may not even come. I hope they do but you can bet that they do not give a $hit about how many floors at this point.

Read your own post...you said it, not me. There obviously have been companies that want to have the tallest no matter what the circumstances or city. I agree it is not about height, but that doesn't mean no one has ever competed for height before.

Well GreenBro said it was to improve their presence in the west. How about Chic-fil-A? Traditionally a southeastern food chain it's begun expanding a lot more nationwide. I've seen quite a few starting to pop up in Utah (one's about to be built here in Logan). Another really interesting note - they have strong religious ties and are one of the few fast food chains to be closed on Sundays

They seem to be quite involved in the Southeast though, sponsoring regional football events (Chic-fil-A Peach Bowl for example), etc. But this would make sense with Green Bro's analysis that they're trying to expand in the West and see Salt Lake as a central geographical point.

Just a reminder, they are not occupying all 32 floors of the skyrise, only about 80% or 24 floors of the tower. They are leasing the rest out to other businesses.

Look at it this way, if rumor is true that Goldman Sachs is going to move into 222, they will probably use the rest of the remaining space in that tower which means it will be esay for this company to use 24 floors. The building is the perfect size.

It's honestly difficult to say because obviously the elevation is different around downtown SLC. That's really all I can concerning that...

I'm pretty sure the COB is 28 floors, not 30. I'm hoping the new proposed tower is shooting for the 500+' mark. I think most of us were hoping for 42 but if built 32 would still be awesome. On the bright side, they could have shown a rendering of 32 and downsized to 22.

You know, a 32 story highrise built in downtown will probably be not taller than the COB, due to the COB's higher elevation.
