Is there anything in that fez hat at the top? A creepy library for its wealthy owner??

Liquid Assets: Roof-Mounted Damper Stifles Sway
in the Windy City.

Chicago’s newest hotel/condo tower houses one of the nation’s first tuned liquid dampers, a system to ensure stillness inside when gale winds whip around outside.

I work around the block from this, so I have been keeping a close eye on its progress. This has turned out much better than I expected it to, though the brown material on top can go.

Looks like a giant fez on top that's missing its tassel. Otherwise, I like the actual tower.

^^It's funny, I think a lot of forumers have commented on the resemblance of the crown to a shriner's fez - but I agree that the actual tower itself has grown on me. Why not have a little glaring, over-indulgent decadence in Chicago once in a while?

I agree, but if they hadn't value engineered the roof it would have been the perfect overthetop to the over-indulgent decadence. Still like the silhouette of the tower.

^^Agreed - I really wish they had also gone with the darker/black window frames - I know many fellow forumers have bemoaned this fact many times in the past, but it's really become (for me, personally) more of a nuisance as the building has neared completion.

^Yeah, darker window frames would have made it pop more with the contrast with the actual exterior material.

wow. pleasantly surprised at how well this building turned out. i expected much worse. modern representations of classical or traditional architecture are hard to do well.

Nice under the radar tower. Not the greatest nor the worst. You guys up in Chicago are spoiled.

Is the crown finished?

It seems like I remember the rendering showing some decorative embellishments on the slanted sides.
