True. But I was thinking the bus terminal would eventually move close to rapid transit, thus vacating that parcel. The feds are already making moves to suburbanises some of the offices. That spot ain't such a bad location for that.

St. Laurent and Tremblay wouldn't be too bad, provided they consider building a pedestrian overpass linking the site to St. Laurent Station.

Nortel, on the other hand, would be just as brutal from a (public) transportation planning perspective as the RCMP in Barrhaven move.

The Voyageur station is fine where it is. It gives young people a sense of arrival at a location where they will be able to walk. And there are buses that serve the station, it doesn't have to be rapid transit. In one particularly ugly scenario, there was the idea of moving Voyageur to the Via station on Tremblay road. Talk about welcome to nowhere.

I would have to aggree, the lcoation of the Voyageur station is fine. It is walkable, I know since it takes me about 10-15 minutes to walk there or if I am feeling lazy I can take the 4 or the 101 there. Cars are a no go since there is next to no parking. Another asset of the bus depot is its location and relationship to the Queensway because the busses can get on and off the Queensway to access the station without having to drive through downtown like they do in Toronto.

The only issue I have with the bus depot is it hasn't aged well. Two words for you Regular Maintenance.

 Domicile development on Spruce Street: an application has been submitted for the old office building facing Somerset next to the new condo development. $1M will be invested to turn it into a high-end office space for the next 20 years.

Westboro Convent Sold to Ashcroft Homes

By Kenneth_Gray Fri, Oct 30 2009 COMMENTS(1) The Bulldog

One of Ottawa's most significant heritage properties has been sold with an eye to preserving its most important attributes. Kitchissippi Councillor Christine Leadman said Ashcroft Homes has purchased the Westboro convent Les Soeurs de la Visitation for "over $10 million." Ashcroft plans to preserve the chapel on the site and the important heritage characteristics of the convent and its surrounding site on Richmond Road just west of Island Park Drive, Leadman said. The developer has no concrete plans for the property but hopes to work with community from the ground up on the project to find a compatible use for the land in the neighbourhood, the councillor said. In addition, Ashcroft has purchased a home behind the site and Billy's Appliances next door. Leadman, who represents the area in which the convent is located, said Ashcroft has promised to make the property "one of the best developments in the city." The developer will start meeting with the community

I noticed that the Shell gas station at O'Connor and Gloucester is closed. Something in the works?

There was someone there boarding up the bathroom doors, and the kiosk/garage was emptied.

They could be just rebuilding an entire new station, like they did with the Petro Canada on Gladstone.

Looks like they've closed it off for a boot-stompin', hand-clappin' jamboree

Ha!

Don't forget - to get into this jamboree, the gloves must be opposite in color and one must be thumbless!

Or your thumbs have to be growing out of your palms. Hmmm, that would make clapping real hard....

Claridge is advertising in today's Citizen that there will be an info release about Plaza Phase 3 on November 14. The website just says "Register Now for Claridge Plaza 3, the third phase of a stunning new addition to the Ottawa skyline."

That's a really stupid sign. Green circle signs have no compulsory requirements attached to them - it just lets people know what is permitted. A green circle parking sign, for instance, doesn't compel one to go park next to it. For it to mandatory, it has to be in black and white. That's why overhead lane marker signs are in black and white.

Assuming there are no other signs, if someone ventured onto that property without proper equipment and got hurt because of a lack of such equipment, the owner and/or contractor would probably be liable.

Federal office tower

Five potential development sites are being explored by the federal government as possible locations for the new building, the Ottawa Business Journal recently reported.

These sites include Brookfield’s site on Kent St., between Albert and Queen streets; Broccolini’s site at 199 Slater St.; Great West Life’s site between Laurier Avenue and Slater Street; Standard Life’s site at the corner of Bank and Slater streets; and Morguard’s site on Gloucester Street, west of Elgin Street.

I was wondering the same thing all summer, as they very carefully disassembled the warehouse-type structure on the site.

It used to look like this:

You can see them tearing it down on Google streetview as well.

The only signs I see are for CRS equipment rental.
