So I flew back in town on Oct 7th to the hazy sky and had to get pics while landing, I think they turned out very interesting with the lighting at 5:25pm.

Thanks! Those were taken with my friend's Nikon D90. My other camera sucks horribly at nighttime photography.

I had my doubts about how the W would look, but I'm really coming around now. It may turn out to be quite a good looking building, with the gray/glass combination. And the Austonian is looking spectacular. To me, it's right up there with the Williams Tower as far as appeal.

Love all the photos. The W is looking good. Hadn't noticed the Ron Paul graffiti had been removed from the bridge. I wonder why they only took the Ron Paul stuff off and left all the rest.

Here's a few photos I took during a 10-minute pit-stop on Friday October 16, 2009. I don't have a car and normally ride Capitol Metro everywhere but there were a few errands I had to run and a former neighbor of mine was kind enough to cart me around in his car.

I had gotten a gift certificate almost a year ago for Border's so we went to the one out on Loop 360 - Capital of Texas Highway. After we were done there, we were pulling out of the parking lot to get on 360 headed back towards Lamar, but in the other direction - just ahead - was Palisades West.

It beckoned me

So I asked my neighbor if we could run over real quick because I wanted to see what views (if any) there were.

So we get over there and they have a pretty big garage. We parked on the first level, then got on the elevator to go up to the top. On most elevators, the "G" button stands for Ground Level. But on this elevator, "G" designated the top floor which, as we found out later, stood for Garden.

There was absolutely no parking up on that top level. It was all landscaped and it seemed huge.

There were still landscapers up there doing work.

Zoomed in view of Austin's last 4 "tallest" all in a row and in order from left to right. If Austin were a publicly traded company, this view would be its growth chart.

Headed back to the elevators (My neighbor had aleady gotten cold and had gone back down to the car.) All those yellow flowers in pots were waiting for the landscapers.

I definitely want to go back to that garage some day when

1. The weather is better
2. The sun is in a better position and
3. The landscaping is done.

Have a looksee at Tampa Bay's skyline these days. At some angles, it could sort of be an Austin in a parallel universe.

Great pics. That last one shows how close the W is to hitting 300 feet tall now. 301 Congress, which is right behind it in the photo, is 306 feet tall.

W Austin developers land new construction financing

After seeking backup financing for eight months, Stratus Properties Inc. said today that it has a new lender that will allow its W Austin Hotel & Residences project downtown to be completed as scheduled in December 2010.

Austin-based Stratus and its partner in the project, the Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds, said they closed today on a $120 million loan funded by Beal Bank Nevada and originated by Beal Bank Nevada’s lending subsidiary, CLG Hedge Fund LLC.
