Great video!
I wish an observation area can be set up at the roof to allow people a chance to enjoy the site.

If there's one thing the new convention centre lacks, it's a concert hall/auditorium that many other major convention centres have. It's simply a different type of room that allows you to cater to a variety of different needs conference organizers have.

Too bad it was cut out from the original design.

This is still in the preliminary stage...

...but I'm part of a major club at UBC and we're planning to bid to host a major and very prestigious international event in early-2011. About 2,000 university students from literally all corners of the globe will be here for about 5 days, and we're planning on using the new Vancouver Convention Centre as our venue (for one thing, it's the only venue in the entire region capable of hosting this event...Canada Place's convention facilities simply would not do, not enough space). It's quite exciting.

We're still studying the feasibility of hosting it here and the logistics required so it's possible we might cancel the bid if it doesn't work out. We have to submit an actual 100-page bid book next spring.

It's like bidding for a scholarly Olympics, other universities are bidding for it as well. Today, the _______. Tomorrow, in the distant future, the Vancouver Summer Olympics! :p

The new convention centre has really opened Vancouver to a much bigger convention market.

Isn't the "scholarly Oympics" the International Universiade? That requires way more space and housing + tons of money though. Edmonton is bidding for it in 2015...they had it in 1983.

It's a scholarly Olympics without any sports. lol, there's no way we'd be going after a Universiade.

Well actually, it's more like an adult version of Dungeons and Dragons...instead of armor class and hit points you're given a nation to represent and the power of veto's and boycotts.

I took the following pictures today.
Glad that workers were working hard to cut off the excess piling steel.

At the west side, the height of the piling is now just at sea level.

It's true, it's true, but I suppose that's what makes us "Vancouver"

Ours integrates with a livable community, park system, and financial center that surrounds it, rather than being placed on an isolated pedestal somewhere far away from the masses that tend to obscure glossy images being projected?

I'm just saying . . . there is more than one perspective on these things, and more than one measure on how to evaluate them.

That commentary aside, Taiwan looks like they have a way cool facility. Is it finished? Love to see some live pics of it.

P.S. If they ever remake the movie Logan's Run, they really ought to use this as the model .
