The platform has the special tiles but it didn't prevent the man from falling onto the track. Since the train was stationary, I suspect he simple misjudged the position of the train door. Too bad with the different type of MK train, the door position is not always at the same spot on the platform.

Maybe the drop off zone is for employees? Not all of them drive to the airport. Now they can more easily get dropped off by spouses who do not have to drive as far and battle the traffic at the actual airport.

No, it's the light that's newly constructed.

You aren't supposed to be parking at Templeton because it's a staff parking lot, or what will be one. YVR does want to reduce traffic entering into YVR and there were plans, including maybe tolling Grant McChonachie Way after Templeton to force people to use the Canada Line, not that it would be smart thing to do. I don't think they would do this anyway: just an idea.

Templeton is for staff at YVR so they can move the parking lot there and add those buses to Long Term or South Terminal. Also keep in mind, there will be offices built around Templeton.
aren't they also moving the long term parking there for the airport expansion which will take over where the current long term lot is? and if so will they still use the shuttle bus they currently use?

I don't think they are moving long term parking just yet but I know the staff lot is moving for sure. If they are moving the long term lot, no, the shuttle buses won't be used to transport people from the airport to the lot: people would use the Canada Line. They may allocate more shuttle buses for the South Terminal to Airport connection, or use them to transport people from Templeton to Long Term Parking Lots, should they be moving the long term lot.

That will never work YVR Station is too constricted to make that feasible.

On yellow tiles, some great examples:

Guiding along a path

A path to the ticket machines.

Aren't our strips on the platform edge? Miss those strips and it's... Uh oh! These strips seem to mark the waiting area and door opening. Since we don't have standard door openings... the blind have to be able to tell by the sound of the train and how long it takes to come through the station. What likely happened is that the guy thought there was a door there as it was an opening between cars and then fell between the cars. Man, that must have been a horrible few moments for that guy. It's really too bad that we don't have standardized door spacing. If there could be something done about this, it would be such an improvement, not just for the visually impaired, but for organization (you'd know where to stand when exiting).

I don't see any reason why this can't be done on the Canada line now.

^ I had little extra time yesterday and rode the Canada Line all the way to YVR before heading home. From what I observed, look like most riders from YVR with luggages are actually locals who have prepaid ticket (monthly pass/U-pass/employee pass/etc.), because I saw less than 10 people using the ticket machine in the 7-minute span, but more than 100 people use the train.

Heading up Thursday and will be riding the line to Yaletown from YVR. Went to the Translink site to see what the fare would be- the fare zone map doens't even show the canada line yet, but shows the airport in zone 2, so $3.75 fare. When you use the trip plannner it says $2.50 per ticket. What does it actually cost to get to Yaletown from the airport?

Thanks!

It costs $3.75 when zone system is on during the weekday up to 6:30 pm. $2.50 all other times.

I'll agree that they're locals, they didn't pay because they know the chances of anyone checking are slim.

I wonder if fare evasion is a bigger problem on the Canada line than the other lines. Actually, I'd be interested to see how fare evasion is spread across demographic lines.

Fare evasion on the Canada Line has to be very very low. I'm checked for a ticket about 3/4 of the time that I ride it, compared to almost never on Expo/Millenium.

I've been checked 50% of the time on the C-Line, versus never in the past ~ 7 yrs on the expo line. And I ride the expo a lot more than the c-line.

It might depend on the stations used. There's almost always checkers at Broadway/City Hall.
