With the announcement that Vestas is looking at existing or already planned structures for the headquarters, instead of South Waterfront, I am voting for One Waterfront Place. I think it would be a great building and location for them! I know it is less than 400,000 sq ft, but they did say they were thinking smaller now.

According to the Tribune, INS (now BCIS) is moving to the Pearl. It sounds like they're moving to an office building to be built at 14th and Overton - a building, the renderings of which we have all roundly criticized.

This gravel lot is my view and I too wonder what will one day become of it. According to the master plan, it is named block 4 and is owned by Hoyt. In their designs it looks like they have a plan for a building but who knows what will become of it in this economy.

the punching out square boxes are starting to become a staple for the city...like the bay windows of San Francisco...either that or just a trend that we will see for the next few years before local architects jump onto the next new cool idea.

^ It's all because of city code. Windows can jut out over the public ROW giving the developer a little more square footage. I forget what they are called exactly, but the idea was to preserve the older brick complexes' look.

How funny. I just passed this building the other day on my way to the Lucky Lab (yum), and I thought the same thing. Punched out windows are the new apartment cliche. I'm not saying I mind them though. Not yet, anyway. I was coming here to see if I could find a rendering of this building (and there it is at the top of the page).

Exactly, they dont bother me and I understand it is a way for a developer to get a little more square footage out of a building...the code has something to do with building overhangs, I cant remember it exactly, but it is kind of stupidly written which makes some common things to buildings harder to do, but makes these box like extensions a loophole...funny how that works sometimes.

We will see if this trend turns into something more, but for now it is just the new thing all the architects have to be doing until something new comes along...which is funny because that is what architecture school is like. One person tries something new on a model, then before you know it everyone is doing the same thing.

There are historic 19-tweens' buildings in my neighborhood that also have punched-out bay windows. Its not only a recent architecture expression.

You can see them often jutting out over the shared driveway between two close-in homes.

I think this building makes the block feel like a genuine urban neighborhood. You've now got relatively dense development on three blocks at the corner of Marshall and 14th - the Safeway, the Machineworks building and now ENSO.

I'm happy to see things are still progressing in the material world, despite all the gloom and doom.

That affordable family housing complex has been approved by the city. We should see this thing pop out of the ground maybe next year.

The "Freedom Center" apartments - three buildings on the north half of the block bounded by 14th, 15th, Overton and Pettygrove - looks like it's passed design approval, after modifications were made. The south half of this block will be the site of the ugly new INS (now BCIS) building.
