Set up turrets around the Olympic countdown clock while you're down there too, if you wouldn't mind.

Might as well do it for the Millennium Line Extension then... to ensure it's SkyTrain indefinitely.

GOING BACK ON TRACK HERE...

TransLink has a gallery for the Canada Lines (I didn't notice until now)

Ah...the thread killer is here again j/k

Who really cares about the pics and the videos now when you can see and ride the line in person?!

I've seen some of the photos before, from the Canada Line pamphlet.

The C-Line was awfully busy tonight with Canucks fans; standing room only and rush-hour loads. It was gratifying to see. Moreso, though, was that the trains in the opposite direction were packed too. We've got ourselves a popular line.

...and to believe the NIMBYs nearly derailed the process...I'd love to know if all those people on Cambie who had picketed and had signs on their lawns saying "NO TO PROGRESS! BAH, HUMBUG" are keeping clear of the Canada Line still, or if they've quietly assimilated and are now saying "I've always said we need a train to the airport..."

A park and ride agreement with Oakridge would be wonderful, but perhaps a more realistic dream is to have one at Marine Drive.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ivanhoe Cambridge, owners of Oakridge, incorporated park and ride spots into the mall's expansion in the coming years.

Would there be space for park and ride? I understand that all of the ground level parking and rooftop parking will be gone once the mall is renovated/redeveloped...i don't think the capital required to make a larger underground parking lot would be worth it for park and ride.

The only way Cadillac Fairview would allow space for a park and ride would be if the city gave them some sort of incentive. Increased density on the site for office/residential towers would be nice, though I'm not sure that alone would do it. Their expansion plans are ambitious and with more retail space comes the need for more parking to adhere to city parking requirements. Increased density on-site AND bonus density for their land where Sears sits would be awesome.

But probably not going to happen. From my understanding both the City and Translink weren't to keen on the idea of park and rides in the first place.

I'm confused what mall are you referring to. Oakridge does not have a Sears and is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge.

That's actually good to see. I would like to see more official and professional photos of our transit system up on the website.

Whenever I'm travelling, or even curious, I check out other authorities websites, and I'm always disappointed they never have any pictures of their system. There are hardly any pictures to speak of on the TTC or STM websites.

The website should be considered a marketing tool. If you go to any other website, you can see pictures of the products. Pictures of how clean and attractive our system is would help sell it to tourists and locals as a safe and easy way to travel.

Translink should have an official wiki, with all kinds of stats and history. Basically take all the information they have, like timetables for bus routes and put it in wiki format instead of PDF. It would be neat if you could click a station, and it would describe the service and history (like date opened, architects, average traffic).

The TTC has an interesting series of pages where you can click on the stations to view information like connecting buses and first/last train and other facilities and points of interest. And the STM has a rather in depth and interesting history of transit in Montreal. We have a rather interesting transit history too, it would be nice to see it presented somewhere official.

I think Park and Ride would go against the concept of developing high density TOD neighbourhoods. I don't see any commuter parking at Metrotown, for example. I think it would be inappropriate at this location.

When did they take those? I rode the line early Sunday morning and it was standing room only. Did they find a rare night when the sun forgot to set and got some pictures on the last train at 1:15am? There's less people in those pictures than on a suburban community shuttle

^ I recognize some of those pictures from before the opening day. I think the "candid" shots of passengers are almost all staged.

Well, a park and ride at Oakridge (or similar) would potentially get a lot more South Vancouver residents off of the False Creek bridges and onto transit.

I assume that we would like to get more people onto the line than just those who live within 400 m of each station... or am I mistaken?

Would it really?

That's why the plan is to beef up east-west bus routes. This increases the catchment area a few thousand meters.

Sure, you may attract a few people to transit by having a park and ride at Oakridge, but consider this:

Scott Road's MASSIVE park and ride is less than 2000 spaces. Given the space available at Oakridge, do you really think that providing 1000 or so commuters with a park and ride lot that will save them a few minutes will increase ridership enough to warrant the costs of the land acquisition and building cost?

Even with people coming and going and a full lot, you'd only be looking at a few thousand more commuters. Is that really worth the investment? More TOD in the area would do FAR greater good.
