That's the third floor mezzanine level, the current top of the core steel is the 4th floor.

Good with the details. I've been meaning to ask you for more specifics on the crown/spire at the top.
Any info is good, because we don't have a lot of specifics on that, besides the crown height of 1,401 ft.

Here's another look at the "lobby" and just how high it will be.

This isn't cladding, the core is actually made of concrete. The steel cage is what connects the floor beams to the outer columns, and that will be covered over in reinforced concrete and steel, hence the rebar. Both run to the top of the building.

@Zensteeldude: Are there exhaust vents or intake vents on the mechanical floors at the top of the building? In some of the renderings, it looks that way.

I was going to say something but it ended up sounding like an innuendo so...

Great construction!

That's amazing crane density, and to think 2 of the towers have yet to start construction.

So is there no way to take a few decent photo's of Super Big Red or is it just that tall that it cannot fit in a camera shot?

And I'm totally crying over here in a corner now that three daily wtc photo services are down. Things are really picking up speed now

I think the best picture of the 18000 can be taken from the South Bridge. It should be able to fit nicely into the whole picture.

Yes, there is going to be an intake air plenum near the top. Off the top of my head I think it'll run from the 91st to the top of the 93rd floor.

NYGuy, I'll see if I have some time this evening and maybe post a few pics of the top of the tower and comunications rings, etc.

North-South section through the top of the tower.

Yes, there is going to be a permanent crane on the roof for servicing all the equipment.

"106th floor", cooling tower catwalks.

Thanks again... This is the first I'm seeing any of this. BTW, I think that "ring" should count as mechanical space. Do you know if they still intend to go forward with the "twising" spire?

I know that DCM was contracted to erect the spire structure as originally designed and I have not herd of any change orders yet. The spire enclosure is pretty much what you can see on the print and it doesn't have the "twist" I have seen on some of the renders. I have spies in high places so I well probably hear about any changes soon after they are made.

Speaking of spies in high places I herd that there is a problem with the permit for the 18000 (the big red crane on the west side) and that is why it has been sitting there doing nothing for a week.

After the disastrous crane accidents in 2008 and the resulting fallout I think most folks can understand why the NYC BD is rather picky these days.

You can fit it into any shot, just a matter of view or distance...example
